How to play
- Pick a Pokémon: today’s five names, a search, or a whole generation.
- Press the button to hear the name, spoken by a recorded clip.
- Say it out loud. With the optional microphone you can record yourself and see the two sound shapes side by side. Without it, use Listen and repeat.
- Tell us how it went: Got it, Nearly or Try again. There is no computer score: you decide.
Stripes
There is one stripe for each of the nine generations (Kanto, numbers 1 to 151; Johto, numbers 152 to 251; Hoenn, numbers 252 to 386; Sinnoh, numbers 387 to 493; Unova, numbers 494 to 649; Kalos, numbers 650 to 721; Alola, numbers 722 to 809; Galar, numbers 810 to 905; Paldea, numbers 906 to 1025). Say 5 different names from a generation and rate them Got it to fill its stripe.
Privacy
If you use the optional microphone in Say it back, your voice is recorded only while you press the button, played back on your own device and never uploaded, stored or shared: the recording lives in the page’s memory and is deleted when you record again or leave the page. The page asks a grown-up first, and you can always use Listen and repeat with no microphone at all.

What is Say it back?
It is a gentle way to practise saying Pokémon names. You hear the name spoken, say it yourself, and then compare. Every one of the 1,025 names has a recorded clip.
Is my voice recorded or uploaded?
If you use the optional microphone in Say it back, your voice is recorded only while you press the button, played back on your own device and never uploaded, stored or shared: the recording lives in the page’s memory and is deleted when you record again or leave the page. The page asks a grown-up first, and the microphone is optional.
Does it mark my pronunciation?
No. There is no speech recognition and no score from a computer. You can see the two sound shapes next to each other and listen to both, then you decide how it went: Got it, Nearly or Try again.
What if I do not want to use the microphone?
Use Listen and repeat. You hear the name, say it out loud, and rate yourself. It works on every device, with no microphone at all.
What are the stripes?
Each of the nine generations has a stripe. Say five different names from a generation and rate them Got it to fill it in. Your stripes are saved with your progress.
