Passive powers, the three Ability slots, Hidden Abilities and the Abilities that change a battle.
A passive power
An Ability is a power a Pokémon always has switched on. You never choose to use it; it just works.
When Gyarados enters battle, its Intimidate lowers the opponent’s Attack. Pikachu’s Static can paralyse a Pokémon that touches it.
Abilities first appeared in Generation 3, with Ruby and Sapphire. There are now more than 300 of them.
