STAB: same-type attack bonus
Why a Pokémon hits 1.5× harder with moves of its own type, and how Adaptability and Terastallization change it.
Same-type attack bonus
If a Pokémon uses a damaging move that matches one of its own types, the damage is multiplied by 1.5. Fans call this STAB: same-type attack bonus.
Pikachu is Electric. Its Thunderbolt (Electric) gets the bonus; its Quick Attack (Normal) does not.
