Eggs and breeding basics
Egg Groups, Ditto, what hatches and what a baby inherits. Decide which pairs can make an Egg.
Egg Groups
Breeding began in Pokémon Gold and Silver. Two Pokémon can make an Egg if they share at least one Egg Group and can be opposite genders. There are 15 Egg Groups, including Field, Monster, Dragon, Mineral and Fairy.
Two special cases: Pokémon in the Undiscovered group, such as most Legendary Pokémon, cannot breed at all. Ditto can breed with almost any Pokémon, even genderless ones, but not with another Ditto.
In Scarlet and Violet (Generation 9) you breed at a picnic. Breeding does not exist in Legends: Arceus or Legends: Z-A.
