Say it right
How to read a pokee.si respelling, find the stressed syllable and say the tricky names out loud.
How to read a respelling
Every Pokémon page on pokee.si shows a respelling and a speaker button. The respelling splits the name into syllables with hyphens.
The loud syllable (the stressed one) is in CAPITALS. Pikachu is PEE-kuh-choo: say the PEE a little louder and longer.
Tap the speakers below to hear each name.
Try it: Tap the loud syllable
Listen, then tap the syllable that is stressed. (interactive on pokee.si)
Names people often get wrong
Some names trip everyone up. The stress is the key:
- Lucario: loo-KAR-ee-oh
- Rayquaza: ray-KWAY-zuh
- Gardevoir: GAR-duh-vwar
- Mewtwo: MYOO-too
Quick check
Charmeleon is said char-MEE-lee-un. Which syllable is loudest?
Answer: MEE. MEE is in capitals, so it is the stressed syllable: char-MEE-lee-un.
Quiz
The lesson ends with a five-question quiz built from the Pokédex data, and earns the Name Caller badge.
