Is Kabuto still alive today?
The Pokédex says some Kabuto never went extinct, and real horseshoe crabs back that up.
Case status: Solved. The games or the developers give a clear answer.
What the games say
Kabuto is a fossil Pokémon, but several Pokédex entries say living ones exist. Ruby, Sapphire and Emerald say that in extremely rare cases living examples have been found, and that Kabuto has not changed for 300 million years. Silver and SoulSilver call it a living fossil. Ultra Sun says living ones can be seen in a certain region, a rare sight, and Shield says Kabuto sightings are fairly common in some places.
What fans think
Fans point out that Kabuto looks a lot like a real animal, the horseshoe crab. In Japanese the horseshoe crab is called kabutogani, which means helmet crab, and "kabuto" is a helmet. That is a name link that fans noticed, and Game Freak has not commented on it.
Our verdict
