Where do Paradox Pokémon come from?
Great Tusk, Iron Treads, Koraidon and Miraidon look like Pokémon from a different time.
Case status: Solved. The games or the developers give a clear answer.
What the games say
In Pokémon Scarlet and Violet, Paradox Pokémon live in Area Zero, at the bottom of the Great Crater of Paldea. In Scarlet they look like relatives of today's Pokémon from the ancient past. In Violet they look like relatives from the far future. Great Tusk looks like an old-time Donphan, and Iron Treads looks like a futuristic one.
The story explains them. A professor built a time machine in a research station in Area Zero, and the machine pulls Paradox Pokémon into the present. The professor in Scarlet is Sada and in Violet is Turo. The Pokédex entries in the early game call them by names from books and magazines, such as "a certain book", "a paranormal magazine" and "an old expedition journal", before the story explains more.
What fans think
Fans have a lot of timeline theories. Is Scarlet's past the same past as Violet's future? Did the machine pull Pokémon from the same timeline or from copies? These are fan questions, and the games stay quiet on most of them.
