Who made the Ultra Wormholes?
Holes between worlds opened over Alola. We know who can open them, but not why they exist.
Case status: Open. The games leave it unanswered, so nobody can say for sure.
What the games say
Ultra Wormholes are doorways between worlds. In Sun and Moon they let Ultra Beasts, such as Nihilego, in from other worlds. In the story, a Cosmog can open them when it is under strain, and its final forms, Solgaleo and Lunala, can open them more easily.
The Pokédex backs it up. Ultra Sun says Solgaleo's opening of an Ultra Wormhole can call energy and life-forms from other worlds here. Ultra Moon says Lunala sometimes summons unknown powers from holes that lead to other worlds. And Ultra Moon calls it a mystery whether Cosmog is even a Pokémon from this world. In the story, the Aether Foundation used Cosmog's power to open wormholes, and in Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon, Necrozma can open them too.
What fans think
Fans like to ask what Ultra Space really is. Is it another universe? Is it where Cosmog comes from? Is it linked to Hoopa's rings? These are fan questions. The games don't answer them.
Our verdict
Case status: Open
Open. We know who can open them, and the games tell that part clearly. We still don't know who made Ultra Space itself, or why the doorways are there.
