Lore
Biology
Annihilape is a simian Fighting and Ghost type, 1.2 m tall and 56 kg, with dark grey skin and a shaggy grey coat that streams upward and thins to white, as if evaporating. Black shackles circle its ankles, the one on its left arm is broken and its right arm has none, and it can enlarge that unshackled arm. Veins throb on its arms and face, its pig-like snout is large and its eyes are red.
Behaviour
The Violet Pokédex says Annihilape keeps its rage hidden in its heart and pours it into its fists. Bulbapedia notes that the shaggy fur on its ears usually hangs down but streams upwards when it fights.
Habitat
Neither the Pokédex nor Bulbapedia gives a habitat.
Powers
Its Abilities are Vital Spirit, Inner Focus and the hidden Defiant. Rage Fist, a Ghost-type move, comes at level 35, and it adds Close Combat, Shadow Punch, Counter and Final Gambit. With 110 base HP and 115 base Attack it is a sturdy, hard-hitting bruiser.
Name origin
Annihilape is probably 'annihilate' plus 'ape'. The Japanese name is Konoyozaru (コノヨザル), possibly from kono yo o saru, 'to leave this world', plus saru, 'monkey'.
Design inspiration
Annihilape draws on primates again, particularly Gibraltar barbary macaques. Its Ghost typing may come from the Sun Pokédex line about Primeape dying of anger, and it also resembles an onryō, a vengeful spirit from Japanese folklore, or the Basajaun, a hairy ape-like figure from Basque folklore. These are fan readings.
Evolution notes
Annihilape is the final form of Mankey. Primeape evolves into it by levelling up once it has used Rage Fist 20 times, which Bulbapedia says means spending the move's PP 20 times. The Legends: Z-A Pokédex says the move must be used with enough force to burst blood vessels in Primeape's head.
In the games
In Scarlet and Violet, where it debuted, Annihilape appears in 5-star and 6-star Tera Raid Battles. The Teal Mask places it in the Kitakami Wilds and Timeless Woods, and in Legends: Z-A it comes by trade or by evolving Primeape in the Mega Dimension DLC.
In the anime
Annihilape debuted, heavily shadowed, at the very end of 'Wattrel's High Wind Warning!'. In 'Hatenna and the Otherworldly' two Primeape from an enraged group evolve into it. Eri owns one in Horizons and in Pokémon: Paldean Winds.
