Lore
Biology
Archaludon is a 2 m tall, 60 kg metal dinosaur with an angular grey body bent at the chest and hips, dark blue plates on its face and underside, and red-tipped horn-like plates. A copper tube inside its mouth fires its beams. Tall retractable spires on its hands and feet end in yellow terminals that collect static electricity; Bulbapedia, citing the official site, says it cannot produce electricity itself. When it faces danger it straightens out on all fours and extends the spires, forming a shape like a bridge.
Behaviour
The Pokédex says Archaludon digs holes on mountains while searching for food. Bulbapedia, citing the official site, adds that storms and other bad weather help its terminals gather static more easily, so its beam is ready faster.
Habitat
Bulbapedia says it lives in boreal mountains. In Scarlet and Violet it is obtained only by evolving Duraludon, in The Indigo Disk expansion, where it is number 162 in the Blueberry Pokédex.
Powers
Its signature move Electro Shot is a 130 power beam that charges for a turn, raising Special Attack, then fires, or fires at once in rain; Bulbapedia says only Archaludon learns it. Its Abilities are Stamina and Sturdy, with Stalwart hidden. It also uses Flash Cannon, Dragon Claw, Draco Meteor and Iron Defense. With 130 base Defense and 125 Special Attack it is a sturdy special attacker.
Name origin
Archaludon may combine 'arch' (a bridge shape, and a word meaning chief), Duraludon and perhaps 'archosaur'. The Japanese name is Briduras (ブリジュラス), which may blend 'bridge', Duraludon's Japanese name and the dinosaur suffix -saurus.
Design inspiration
Archaludon appears to draw on cable-stayed and folding bridges. Bulbapedia notes legs like the Guadiana International Bridge, X patterns like Portugal's 25 de Abril Bridge, and a likeness to the Puente del Dragón, a dragon-shaped bridge in Spain. These are fan readings.
Evolution notes
Duraludon evolves into Archaludon when exposed to a Metal Alloy.
In the games
Archaludon was revealed in the Pokémon Presents of 8 August 2023 and arrived with The Indigo Disk. Bulbapedia lists it as unobtainable in Legends: Z-A.
In the anime
Drayton's Archaludon debuted in Pokémon Horizons in 'Terarium Training!', where it knocked out Roy's Kilowattrel in a Double Battle. In 'Don't Give Up, Crocalor!', Drayton Terastallized it into a Dragon type for a rematch.
