Lore
Biology
Aromatisse is 0.8 m tall and weighs 15.5 kg, with fluffy purple fur or feathers on its head and upper body and a skirt-like mass of pink fur below, finished with a black bow at the base of its back. A pale blue-grey face ends in a small curved beak that resembles a plague doctor's or masquerade mask. It has red-and-black eyes with full lashes, two wavy yellow-centred ears and three yellow claws on each hand.
Behaviour
Aromatisse devises scents to suit the moment, including unpleasant ones its enemies dislike, to gain an edge in battle. The Pokédex says the smell is so heavy that a Trainer who does not happen to love it will struggle to walk beside Aromatisse.
Habitat
The Pokédex names no habitat. Aromatisse is unobtainable in Scarlet and Violet, and in the Legends: Z-A base game it can only be had by evolving Spritzee.
Powers
Its Abilities are Healer and, hidden, Aroma Veil. It uses Aromatic Mist, its signature move in Generation VI, along with Heal Pulse, Moonblast and Draining Kiss, and sets up with Calm Mind. With 101 base HP and 99 Special Attack it is a bulky special attacker, though its base Speed of 29 is very low.
Name origin
Aromatisse may combine 'aromatic' and 'finesse', and may also involve 'aromatize'. The Japanese name is Frefuwan (フレフワン), which may blend 'fragrance' or 'fresh' with fuwafuwa ('fluffy').
Design inspiration
Bulbapedia credits Saya Tsuruta with the design, citing a 2019 post on her Twitter account. Aromatisse appears to be an aristocratic woman in a masquerade mask, with her fur forming a fluffy dress, which fits Spritzee's story of noble ladies, and it may also nod to flamenco and can-can dancers. These are fan readings.
Evolution notes
Aromatisse evolves from Spritzee when Spritzee is traded while holding a Sachet.
In the games
Aromatisse is reached by evolving Spritzee in X and Y, and in Sword and Shield it appears only in Shield's Max Raid Battles. Legends: Z-A's Mega Dimension DLC also has it wild in the Fairy-type zones of Hyperspace Lumiose.
In the anime
Aromatisse physically debuted in 'Battling with Elegance and a Big Smile!' as the Pokémon of the reigning Kalos Queen, Aria, and it kept appearing through the XY series.
