Aron

Aron is a Steel/Rock-type Pokémon, the Iron Armor Pokémon, number 304 (#0304) in the National Pokédex. It was introduced in Generation 3 and comes from the Hoenn region. It is 0.4 m tall and weighs 60 kg.
Aron is the Iron Armor Pokémon, a small Steel and Rock type that builds its body out of iron ore and, when hungry, eats railway tracks. Every time it evolves it sheds its armour and grows a new set, and people once collected the old plates.

Aron is pronounced AIR-un. The capital letters show the stressed syllable.

Lore
Biology
Aron is a black, four-legged Pokémon, 0.4 m tall and 60 kg, covered in platinum-coloured steel plates over its head, back and legs. Small gaps in the armour leave room for its pale blue eyes, and a single blunt spike sticks up from its back. The Pokédex says one all-out charge can demolish a heavy dump truck.
Behaviour
Aron is usually found deep in the mountains. Hunger is what changes that: when ore runs short it comes down and eats bridges and rails, and people treat it as a pest. Its discarded armour is another story, since the Pokédex says people have collected it since ancient times.
Habitat
The Pokédex lists Aron as a mountain Pokémon. In Legends: Z-A it is found in Magenta District's Wild Zone 14 and, in the Mega Dimension DLC, in Hyperspace Lumiose.
Diet
Iron ore dug out of mountains, which it uses to make its steel body.
Powers
Its Abilities are Sturdy, which stops it being knocked out from full health in one hit, and Rock Head, which prevents recoil damage; Heavy Metal, which doubles its weight, is hidden. It hits with Metal Claw and Iron Head, and Harden toughens it up. It is a slow wall: base Defense 100 against Speed 30.
Name origin
Aron may combine 'armour' and 'iron'. The Japanese name is Cokodora (ココドラ), which may blend kōdō ('mining tunnel'), ko ('small' or 'child') and Kodora, the Japanese name of Lairon.
Design inspiration
Bulbapedia suggests Aron may draw on the Bulgasari, a Korean legend about an iron-eating monster, and on the nodosaurs, a family of armoured dinosaurs. These are fan readings.
Evolution notes
Aron evolves into Lairon at level 32.
In the games
Aron arrived in Ruby and Sapphire and appears on the EVO Mode banner of Pokémon Pinball: Ruby & Sapphire. It cannot be obtained in Scarlet and Violet.
In the anime
Aron debuted in 'A Hole Lotta Trouble', where Ash and his friends wandered into a cave swarming with them and needed Steven Stone, who owned one himself, to guide them through.
Fun facts

- In the Pokémon Adventures manga, Sapphire's first Pokémon is an Aron nicknamed Rono, which evolves before her Gym battle with Brawly and again on Mirage Island.
- The credits of Giratina and the Sky Warrior show an Aron and its evolved forms munching on the wreckage of the Megarig.
