A new Trainer from Littleroot Town works through eight Gyms while Team Magma (wants more land) and Team Aqua (wants more sea) race to awaken Groudon and Kyogre. Rayquaza has to calm the clash.

One main island and many small ones, with more water routes than any other region. Volcanoes, jungle, deserts and deep seas are all packed in.

- In Hoenn's legend, Groudon and Kyogre formed from the planet's natural energy and fought for control of land and sea until Rayquaza ended the fight.
- Hoenn's name was said by Masuda to mean "abundant relations", a nod to the bonds between people and Pokémon.
- In the lore of Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire, Mega Evolution's first known appearance was Rayquaza, about 1,000 years ago, after a meteoroid struck Hoenn.
- Hoenn has more water routes than any other region.
