Lore
Biology
Bombirdier is a white, stork-like bird, 1.5 m tall and 42.9 kg, with black slanted eyes ringed like eyeliner, a long reddish-pink beak that ends in a rounded bump, and a small crest shaped like a fan. Its long apron is made of shed feathers added to its chest feathers; it hangs past its legs and is held in its beak when it flies.
Behaviour
Bombirdier bundles up food, such as Basculin, in its apron and carries it back to its nest. The Pokédex says the dropping is done for fun, and that it particularly enjoys things that make a loud noise.
Habitat
Serebii lists town, mountain and ocean biomes in Paldea. In Scarlet and Violet it is found in the South and West Provinces, the West Paldean Sea, The Teal Mask's Kitakami and 5-star and 6-star Tera Raids.
Powers
Big Pecks protects against Defense drops and Keen Eye against accuracy drops, and its hidden Rocky Payload powers up Rock-type moves, an Ability Bulbapedia says no other Pokémon has. It attacks with Wing Attack, Dual Wingbeat, Knock Off and Rock Slide, and knows Memento and Parting Shot. With 103 base Attack and 85 in both defences it is a sturdy physical attacker.
Name origin
Bombirdier may combine 'bombardier' and 'bird'. The Japanese name is Otoshidori (オトシドリ), perhaps otoshi ('drop') plus tori ('bird').
Design inspiration
Bombirdier appears to be a white stork, which European folklore says delivers babies by dropping them down chimneys. The design plays with that idea: its apron and black-and-white feathers suggest a nanny, but it drops objects as attacks instead. Its crest and face markings may also recall vultures that drop rocks to crack things open. These are fan readings.
In the games
A giant Bombirdier, the Open Sky Titan, is a boss encounter guarding Herba Mystica in West Province Area One of Scarlet and Violet, where the species debuted. Afterwards it can be rematched and caught. Bulbapedia lists it as unobtainable in Legends: Z-A.
In the anime
Two wild Bombirdier debuted in the Horizons episode 'Tinkatink's Hammer Wasn't Made in a Day', and one Terastallized in a battle against Dot. In 'Dragonite and the Special Delivery' one snatches Hana's letter.
