Lore
Biology
Diancie is 0.7 m tall and weighs 8.8 kg. Its lower body is a cone of grey rock with a large pink diamond growing from one side, and its upper body wears a fluffy white material like a dress. A headdress of pink crystals frames its face, with a rounded crystal at the centre and long obelisk-shaped ones hanging behind like ponytails. The Pokédex says it can squeeze the carbon out of the air with its hands and turn it into diamonds instantly.
Behaviour
Bulbapedia says groups of Carbink gather around Diancie, though it pays them little attention. Legends describe it as a guardian that protects its travelling partners from harm.
Habitat
No Pokédex entry names a habitat; Bulbapedia notes legends of it living with a pack of Carbink in a jewelled kingdom, like the Diamond Domain of its film. Diancie cannot be found in the wild in Scarlet and Violet, which accept it only from HOME or an event. In Legends: Z-A one is given out in Magenta Sector 8 once a Mystery Gift is activated.
Powers
Its Ability is Clear Body. Bulbapedia says no other known Pokémon can learn its signature move Diamond Storm, and it also learns Moonblast, Stealth Rock and Power Gem. Base Defense and Special Defense of 150 make it very sturdy. Mega Diancie, from Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire, has Magic Bounce, base Attack and Special Attack of 160 and base Speed of 110, and Bulbapedia says it can form a sword from its own diamonds. The Legends: Z-A Pokédex puts the diamond on Diancie's forehead at 2,000 carats.
Name origin
Diancie may combine 'diamond', 'fancy', 'pixie' and 石 ishi ('stone'). The ending may also echo Melecie, Carbink's Japanese name. The Japanese name is ディアンシー, romanised Diancie.
Design inspiration
Diancie may be based on the carbuncle, a mythical creature said to wear a jewel on its forehead, and may play on the 'princess cut' of a diamond. Its pink colour may nod to pink diamonds, which are rare and not fully understood. These are fan readings.
Evolution notes
Diancie does not evolve, but it is tied to Carbink: the Pokédex calls it a sudden mutation of one, and Bulbapedia notes the two have almost the same moves.
In the games
Among Mythical Pokémon, Diancie alone could Mega Evolve before Legends: Z-A and its Mega Dimension DLC. Mega Diancie arrived in Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire, after the species appeared as a Mythical Pokémon in X and Y. In Z-A the Pokédex also calls it the Royal Pink Princess.
In the anime
Diancie is a main character in the short 'Diancie: Princess of the Diamond Domain' and the film Diancie and the Cocoon of Destruction, where it travels in search of Xerneas.
