Diglett

Diglett is a Ground-type Pokémon, the Mole Pokémon, number 50 (#0050) in the National Pokédex. It was introduced in Generation 1 and comes from the Kanto region. It is 0.2 m tall and weighs 0.8 kg.
Diglett is the Mole Pokémon, a tiny burrower that ploughs farmers' fields for free: wherever it tunnels, the soil is left perfectly tilled. Some farmers cherish it for that, and others call it a pest.
How to pronounce Diglett

Lore
Biology
Diglett is a brown mole 0.2 m tall and 0.8 kg, with beady black eyes and a big round pink nose that is usually all you see of it. Its skin is so thin that, the Pokédex says, sunlight heats its blood and leaves it weak.
Behaviour
The Pokédex says it comes out only after dark, and Pokémon Sleep counts a Diglett asleep above ground as good luck. The Ultra Moon Pokédex says farmers plant its favourite trees so it keeps ploughing their fields.
Habitat
The Pokédex lists it as a cave Pokémon that digs its own tunnels about 1 m (a yard) down, and Bulbapedia says it sometimes uses burrows left by Onix.
Diet
The Pokédex says plant roots and tree roots; Bulbapedia adds vegetables.
Powers
Its Abilities are Sand Veil, Arena Trap (foes cannot flee or switch unless they are Flying-type or airborne) and the hidden Sand Force. With 95 base Speed but only 10 base HP, it hits early with Dig or the one-hit knockout Fissure and falls fast. Alolan Diglett is Ground and Steel, with three gold whiskers that sense its surroundings and show its mood, and it has Tangling Hair instead of Arena Trap.
Name origin
Diglett may combine 'dig' with the small-size suffix -let. The Japanese name is Digda (ディグダ), from 'dig', which Bulbapedia says also nods to the 1982 arcade game Dig Dug.
Design inspiration
Shigeki Morimoto designed Diglett and says he made it up as a small child. It appears to be based on the mole in Whac-A-Mole arcade games, and its full-health line in Mystery Dungeon begs not to be whacked. Alolan Diglett's whiskers might come from Pele's hair, thin strands of Hawaiian volcanic glass.
Evolution notes
Diglett evolves into Dugtrio at level 26, as does Alolan Diglett into Alolan Dugtrio.
In the games
A side quest in Sword and Shield's Isle of Armor asks you to find 150 Alolan Diglett. In Scarlet and Violet it is wild in Paldea, with the Alolan form in The Indigo Disk, but Bulbapedia lists it as unobtainable in Legends: Z-A.
In the anime
Diglett debuted in 'Dig Those Diglett!', where a colony bothered a dam crew while planting trees. Goh caught one from a crop-eating pack in 'How Are You Gonna Keep 'Em Off of the Farm?'.

- A letter in Red and Blue Rescue Team counts the question of whether Diglett has feet among the seven mysteries of the Pokémon world.
- According to Bulbapedia, Diglett and Dugtrio are unique in having both regional forms and convergent counterparts, Paldea's Wiglett and Wugtrio.
