Fearow

Fearow is a Normal/Flying-type Pokémon, the Beak Pokémon, number 22 (#0022) in the National Pokédex. It was introduced in Generation 1 and comes from the Kanto region. It is 1.2 m tall and weighs 38 kg.
Fearow is the Beak Pokémon, a vulture-like bird that can stay in the air all day without landing. It plunges on prey from a great height, or uses a beak long enough to pluck bugs out of the ground.

Lore
Biology
Fearow is a large brown bird, 1.2 m tall and 38 kg, with a long vulture-like neck, broad wings, a sharp pink beak and a red crest. Shaggy cream feathers cover the base of its neck and the tops of its wings, and its talons are pink. The Moon Pokédex entry says ancient murals show a Pokémon resembling it.
Behaviour
Its wings and stamina let it fly an entire day without resting on the ground. The Pokédex says it takes off high and away at the first sign of danger, and it will snatch food from anyone carrying it through its territory.
Habitat
The Pokédex habitat is Rough Terrain, and Bulbapedia describes open, warm country, mainly wastelands and fields.
Diet
Pokédex entries say it plucks prey from soil or water with its long beak; Bulbapedia adds that it circles above the ocean for fish.
Powers
Its Ability is Keen Eye, with Sniper hidden. It uses Drill Peck and Drill Run for its heaviest hits, Aerial Ace for a reliable strike, Mirror Move to copy a foe's last attack, and Roost to recover. With base Attack 90 and Speed 100 it is a quick physical attacker.
Name origin
Fearow may combine 'fear' with 'sparrow', and perhaps also 'feather' and 'arrow', for its sharp beak. The Japanese name is Onidrill (オニドリル), which may join oni (鬼, ogre or demon), tori (鳥, bird) and doriru (ドリル, drill).
Design inspiration
Fearow seems based on predatory birds, especially vultures and condors, judging by the long neck, shaggy feathers and soaring flight. Its crest resembles a rooster's comb, and its two hunting styles in the Pokédex, diving and probing, echo falcons and sandpipers. These are fan readings.
Evolution notes
Fearow evolves from Spearow at level 20 and does not evolve further.
In the games
In Yellow, rival Blue uses one in Pokémon Tower, and in Pokémon Ranger it is Spenser's partner Pokémon. Red and Green (Red and Blue outside Japan) introduced it. Bulbapedia lists it as catchable in Sun and Moon, Let's Go, and Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl, but unobtainable in Scarlet and Violet and Legends: Z-A.
In the anime
The Spearow leader who attacked Ash on his first day had become a Fearow by 'Pallet Party Panic!'. Ash's Pidgeotto had to evolve into Pidgeot to beat it, and Ash failed to catch it. In 'Adventures in Running Errands!', one grabbed a purse from Clemont's Chespin.
