Lore

Biology

Flittle is a small yellow chick-like Pokémon, 0.2 m tall and 1.5 kg, with large blue eyes, a tiny lavender mouth and white frills on its head. Yellow and pink frills on its belly give off psychic energy. Its pointed feet are so small they seem useless for moving and simply dangle as it hovers.

Behaviour

Flittle is vengeful. The Pokédex says anyone who steals its beloved berries gets chased down until it has had its revenge.

Habitat

The Pokédex says it runs around wastelands, Bulbapedia adds mountainous regions, and Serebii lists Mountain and Desert biomes. In Scarlet and Violet it is common in all four provinces, including the Asado Desert and Dalizapa Passage, and it appears in 1-star Tera Raids.

Powers

Anticipation warns of dangerous moves and Frisk reveals a foe's held item, while Speed Boost is hidden. It learns Confusion early and adds Psybeam, Disarming Voice and Uproar, with Quick Attack and Agility to strike first. Its 75 base Speed is its best stat; the rest are tiny until it evolves.

Name origin

Flittle may combine 'flitter' (a fluttering movement) and 'little'. The Japanese name is Hirahina (ヒラヒナ), perhaps hirahira (fluttering) plus hina (chick).

Design inspiration

Bulbapedia credits Atsuko Nishida with Flittle's design, citing her Instagram post. It seems modelled on the chicks of several birds, and its frills and rounded shape may also borrow from other animals, among them the dumbo octopus. These are fan readings.

Evolution notes

Flittle evolves into Espathra at level 35.

In the games

Flittle is common across all four of Paldea's provinces in Scarlet and Violet, where it debuted. Bulbapedia lists it as unobtainable in Legends: Z-A.

In the anime

Flittle has only minor Horizons cameos, such as in 'Terastallization vs. Mega Evolution!' and 'Stellar Finale'.
