Lore
Biology
Rabsca is a teal, metallic beetle, 0.3 m tall and 3.5 kg, that floats upside down above the ground. It has a red face with a white star shape on its forehead, plus long white whiskers that look like eyebrows and a moustache. Its hind legs hold a reddish-pink ball that can shine brightly to show a sleeping, cocoon-like baby inside.
Behaviour
Rabsca is a careful nursemaid: the Pokédex says it turns the ball gently with its legs so the baby can sleep well. Its own body stays almost motionless while it works.
Habitat
The Pokédex gives no habitat, but Serebii lists the Desert biome in Paldea. In Scarlet and Violet you get one by evolving Rellor or from 4-star Tera Raids, and The Indigo Disk adds it to the Savanna Biome with Blueberry Pokédex number 31.
Powers
Synchronize passes a burn, paralysis or poison back to whoever inflicted it, and Telepathy is hidden. It learns Revival Blessing, which revives a fainted ally, the moment it evolves, and later gains Psybeam, Extrasensory, Bug Buzz and Psychic. With 115 base Special Attack and 100 Special Defense it is a sturdy special attacker.
Name origin
Rabsca may be 'scarab' with its syllables transposed, which also makes it an anagram of the word, and it may nod to Ra, the Egyptian sun god sometimes linked with scarabs. The Japanese name is Beracas (ベラカス), which may be sukarabe (scarab) spelled in reverse.
Design inspiration
Rabsca appears to be a sacred scarab beetle, and may echo an Egyptian scarab-faced god of the rising sun and renewal, which Bulbapedia links to its Revival Blessing. Its long white moustache and eyebrows give it the look of an old sage who gained wisdom through lifelong training, and the ball with a baby inside may reflect dung beetles that lay eggs in a ball of dung. These are fan readings.
Evolution notes
Rabsca is the evolved form of Rellor, which needs 1,000 steps walked with it in Let's Go before it levels up.
In the games
Rabsca appears in Tera Raid Battles as well as through evolution in Scarlet and Violet, where it debuted. Bulbapedia lists it as unobtainable in Legends: Z-A.
In the anime
Rabsca debuted in the Horizons episode 'Friends as Two, Me and You', where four of them helped Indi and Rubina fight Roy and Ult.
