Lore

Biology

Glimmet is 0.7 m tall and weighs 8 kg. It has a translucent light blue cone for a head with yellow eyes, ringed by six small dark blue petals of crystallised poison. Behind the cone sits a black prism that leads to a bulbous purple bud.

Behaviour

Glimmet clings to cave walls and ceilings. It defends itself by scattering poisonous powder, or by striking with its poison-packed bud. Bulbapedia says Glimmet and Glimmora work together in groups to drive off enemies.

Habitat

The Pokédex places it in caves. In Scarlet and Violet it is found in Alfornada Cavern and across East, North and West Provinces, as well as Kitakami's Crystal Pool, Infernal Pass and Oni Mountain, and in 3-star Tera Raid Battles.

Diet

The Pokédex says it absorbs nutrients from cave walls.

Powers

Toxic Debris scatters poison spikes on the opposing side when a physical move hits it, and its hidden Ability is Corrosion. It learns Ancient Power, Stealth Rock, Power Gem and Sludge Wave. With base Special Attack 105 against Attack 35, its attacks should be special.

Name origin

Glimmet may combine 'glimmer' with -et (a suffix for something small) or 'emit'. The Japanese name is Kirame (キラーメ), which may blend kirakira ('glittering'), kirameku ('to glitter') and me ('bud').

Design inspiration

Glimmet appears to be based on animals that stay put, especially sea sponges, some of which look like flowers and defend themselves with mineral spikes and chemicals. It may also nod to blue copper sulfate crystals and to Lithops, the 'living stones' that look like pebbles. These are fan readings.

Evolution notes

Glimmet evolves into Glimmora at level 35.

In the games

Glimmet is found in Alfornada Cavern and across three of Paldea's provinces in Scarlet and Violet, where it debuted. In Legends: Z-A it appears in the Mega Dimension DLC's Hyperspace Lumiose, in the 3-star and 4-star Poison-type and Rock-type wild zones.

In the anime

Glimmet debuted in 'The Approaching Shadow!', where several lived in a cave at Glaseado Mountain. In 'Over the Top!' two fight alongside Geeta's Glimmora against Liko, Roy and Dot.

Fun facts

  • Glimmet Crystals are needed to make the Tera Blast TM, and Bulbapedia says this is one reason Glimmet is thought to be linked to the Terastal phenomenon.
  • In 'Over the Top!' Glimmet are shown flying by spinning their petals like propellers.
  • It can learn Self-Destruct at level 29 and inherit Explosion and Memento as Egg Moves, three different ways to faint on purpose.
  • At 8 kg it is the lightest of the Rock types introduced in Generation IX, according to poke.si's records.
