Lore

Biology

Iron Crown is an armoured turquoise Pokémon, 1.6 m tall and 156 kg, that Bulbapedia likens to a robotic goat. It has bright digital blue eyes, two yellow drill-like horns with glowing patches, a long neck, and fin-like yellow plates on its shoulder blades. Bulbapedia says it can rotate its head, and that its blue glow turns black when it falls asleep.

Behaviour

The Pokédex says an incident was reported in which it fired shining blades that sliced everything around it to bits, and that little else is known. Perrin's in-game rumour, quoted by Bulbapedia, says it can fire beams from its horns that cut through anything. Bulbapedia adds that the glowing parts of its horns can form two long blue blades that bend at the end, used as energy swords.

Habitat

Canon gives no natural habitat. In The Indigo Disk it is found in Area Zero once you start Perrin's questline, and it is a Violet exclusive: Scarlet players must trade for it. It is number 238 in the Blueberry Pokédex.

Powers

Its Ability Quark Drive raises its highest stat on Electric Terrain or when it holds Booster Energy. Its signature move Tachyon Cutter launches particle blades twice in a row and never misses; only Iron Crown learns it. It also uses Psyshock, Flash Cannon, Future Sight and Volt Switch. With 122 base Special Attack and 100 Defense it is a sturdy special attacker.

Name origin

Iron Crown is literal; 'crown' can mean a head adornment, the top of the head or a ruler. The Japanese name is Tetsunokashira (テツノカシラ), which reads as tetsu no kashira, 'iron head' or 'iron leader'.

Design inspiration

Bulbapedia says Iron Crown is based on Cobalion, designed by Takao Unno, and suggests the impala as a model for its curved horns. These are fan readings.

In the games

Iron Crown was revealed in the Pokémon Presents of 8 August 2023, and is one of the Paradox Pokémon added by The Indigo Disk for Violet. Bulbapedia lists it as unobtainable in Legends: Z-A.
