Lore
Biology
Krookodile measures 1.5 m and weighs 96.3 kg. It is a heavy maroon crocodile with a black back, a white belly and five triangular spikes, one large at the base of its tail. The black membrane around its eyes sweeps up into sharp points, and the Pokédex says its jaws can crush a car.
Behaviour
Krookodile is terribly aggressive, yet the Shield entry says it can lie buried in sand for days, waiting for prey. The Black 2 entry says it snaps at anything that moves before its eyes, and the Ultra Sun entry says it glides through the desert like a swimmer before leaping out on its target.
Habitat
Krookodile hunts in deserts and sandstorms. In Scarlet and Violet it appears in 5 star Tera Raid Battles and by evolving Krokorok, and in The Indigo Disk it lives in the Terarium's Savanna Biome.
Powers
Its Abilities are Intimidate or Moxie, with Anger Point hidden. Power Trip was its signature move before Generation VIII, and it learns Earthquake, Crunch, Foul Play and Thrash. With 117 base Attack, 92 Speed and 95 HP it is a strong physical attacker that snowballs with every knockout.
Name origin
Krookodile may combine corrupted forms of 'crook' and 'crocodile'. The Japanese name is Waruvial (ワルビアル), possibly from warui ('bad') and gavial.
Design inspiration
Krookodile appears to be modelled on crocodiles, as its pre-evolutions are, and its long snout may recall a gharial. Bulbapedia suggests the extinct land crocodilian Quinkana for its Ground type, a gang leader for its Dark type, and tactical binoculars for its eyes. These are fan readings.
Evolution notes
Krookodile is the final stage, evolving from Krokorok at level 40.
In the games
In Pokémon Rumble Blast, Krookodile is one of Cobalion's minions and steals the Glowdrops of two towns. It first appeared in Black and White as the last stage of the Sandile line. In Legends: Z-A it is an Alpha Pokémon in Wild Zone 20 of Centrico Plaza, according to Bulbapedia, and the Mega Dimension DLC adds it to Hyperspace Lumiose.
In the anime
Ash's Krokorok evolved into a Krookodile in 'Ash, Iris, and Trip: Then There Were Three!' during a battle against Iris's Dragonite. In Alola, Nanu used one against Ash in 'Tough Guy Trials!' and beat his Lycanroc.
