Lore
Biology
Landorus is an orange, muscular, genie-like Pokémon, 1.5 m tall and 68 kg, with three pink horns, white hair and a jagged white moustache. Below the waist it trails off into a cloud, and a branch-like tail carries pink-spotted flat growths. Every Landorus is male. The Pokédex says energy pouring from its tail raises the nutrients in the soil.
Behaviour
Landorus is a calm peacemaker. The Pokédex says it arrives when the incarnations of wind and lightning clash, and that the land is blessed with rich harvests once the storms fade. Bulbapedia says grateful people call it Great Landorus, and that it can wrap itself in a wind shield and stir up small sandy whirlwinds.
Habitat
Bulbapedia places it in the sky, typically near islands ringed by sea. In Scarlet and Violet it can only arrive by Pokémon HOME transfer or event.
Powers
Its Ability is Sand Force, which boosts Rock, Ground and Steel moves in a sandstorm, and its Hidden Ability is Sheer Force. Its signature move is Sandsear Storm, which Bulbapedia says no other known Pokémon can learn; it arrives at level 80 in Scarlet and Violet. The Reveal Glass turns it into its Therian Forme, a lean, cat-like four-legged body 1.3 m tall with the Ability Intimidate. That form swaps Special Attack and Speed for more Attack, 145 instead of 125. Either way it is a fast, hard-hitting physical attacker.
Name origin
Landorus seems to blend 'land' with Aeolus, the Greek ruler of the winds. The Japanese name is Landlos (ランドロス), probably the same idea.
Design inspiration
Bulbapedia says Landorus is based on a land deity, perhaps Inari Okami, the Japanese kami of fertility and agriculture. Junichi Masuda has said its Therian Forme corresponds to the White Tiger of Chinese myth, the guardian of the west, and Legends: Arceus puts Landorus in the western Obsidian Fieldlands. The Incarnate Forme may also borrow from genies and from the Greek east wind, Eurus.
In the games
You can meet Landorus at the Abundant Shrine if you bring both Tornadus and Thundurus, the trio it first appeared with in Black and White. Black 2 and White 2 added its Therian Forme. In Legends: Arceus it lives on Ramanas Island in the Obsidian Fieldlands, and Bulbapedia lists it as unobtainable in Legends: Z-A.
In the anime
Landorus made its physical debut in the second half of 'Stopping the Rage of Legends!', where it subdued Tornadus and Thundurus. In 'Unova's Survival Crisis!' it appeared in both Formes after Giovanni summoned it to the Abyssal Ruins.
