Lore
Biology
Ledian is a humanoid ladybird with a red head and back covered in black spots, blue eyes, black antennae and four arms ending in white, boxing-glove hands. It is 1.4 m tall and weighs 35.6 kg. Clear wings fold away beneath its wing cases, and its neck and limbs are black.
Behaviour
By day Ledian sleeps curled up in a big leaf or in the grass. At night it flutters about scattering sparkly dust, and one Pokédex entry says that if it sticks to you, good things may follow. In battle it rains punches from all four arms, aiming to win through numbers rather than strength.
Habitat
The Pokédex habitat is forest, and Bulbapedia says it rests wrapped in leaves or grass during the day in temperate and tropical forests. It is not available in Scarlet and Violet or Legends: Z-A.
Diet
A Sun Pokédex entry says it also loves to eat berries.
Powers
Its Abilities are Swarm and Early Bird, with Iron Fist hidden, which suits a fighter that punches with four arms. It learns Mach Punch at level 15 and Comet Punch at 24, plus Silver Wind and Bug Buzz. With base 110 Special Defense but only 35 Attack, it is sturdier than it is dangerous.
Name origin
Ledian may blend 'ladybird', 'red' and possibly 'alien' or 'guardian'. The Japanese name is Redian (レディアン).
Design inspiration
Ledian appears modelled on a ladybird, with fireflies a possible source of its night glow and aliens of its humanoid shape. Bulbapedia also notes a strong resemblance to Pulseman, another Game Freak character. These are fan readings.
Evolution notes
Ledian evolves from Ledyba at level 18.
In the games
In Crystal Ledian appears on Routes 2 and 37 in the morning, and in Sun, Moon, Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon it is wild by day on Alola's Routes 10, 11 and 17, Malie Garden and Ula'ula Meadow. Sword and Shield left it out.
In the anime
Two Ledian debuted in 'Mountain Time', owned by Benji and his father, who work together in the Mountain Patrol. In the special 'Mewtwo Returns', wild Ledian help other Bug Pokémon defend Mount Quena from Team Rocket.
Fun facts
- Bulbapedia says its category, Five Star Pokémon, is a mistranslation: the Japanese word itsutsuboshi means 'five spots', but hoshi ('star') is also the word for a ladybird's spots, and Ledian's spots are not star-shaped.
- Although several Pokédex entries describe Ledian as nocturnal, Bulbapedia says wild Ledian are almost always found in the morning or daytime in the games.
- In 'Mewtwo Returns', Bulbapedia says Ledian's spots flash red at night.

Pokédex entries
It flies through the night sky, sprinkling sparkly dust. According to some, if that dust sticks to you, good things will happen to you. (Ultra Moon)
It's said that the patterns on its back are related to the stars in the night sky, but the details of that relationship remain unclear. (Ultra Sun)
In battle, it throws punches with all four arms. The power of each individual blow is piddly, so it aims to win by quantity rather than quality. (Moon)
While it's believed that starlight provides it with energy, this Pokémon also loves to eat berries. In the daytime, it curls up in the grass to sleep. (Sun)
It is said that in lands with clean air, where the stars fill the sky, there live Ledian in countless numbers. There is a good reason for this - the Pokémon uses the light of the stars as its energy. (Ruby, Sapphire, Omega Ruby, Alpha Sapphire)
The spot patterns on its back grow larger or smaller depending on the number of stars in the night sky. (SoulSilver, Y)
