Grasshopper Pokémon · Bug/Dark-type

Lokix official artwork

Lokix is a Bug/Dark-type Pokémon, the Grasshopper Pokémon, number 920 (#0920) in the National Pokédex. It was introduced in Generation 9 and comes from the Paldea region. It is 1 m tall and weighs 17.5 kg.

Lokix is a masked, locust-like Bug and Dark type with a fighting mode of its own, Showdown Mode, in which it stands on its huge third pair of legs and lashes out with them. The mode strains its body, so it cannot hold it for long, and no other Pokémon shares its type combination.

How to pronounce Lokix

Lokix is pronounced LOH-kiks. The capital letters show the stressed syllable.

Lore

Biology

Lokix is 1 m tall and weighs 17.5 kg. It is dark grey with glossy black on its head, thorax and forearms, a mask-like plate over its face, orange triangular eyes and black antennae with white stripes. The long third legs on its back carry a symbol like a prohibition sign at each joint and end in orange spikes and a white claw.

Behaviour

Lokix saves Showdown Mode for going all out. The Pokédex says it beats its enemies in short order, but standing on those unfolded legs is a heavy strain on its body, so it cannot keep the mode up for long.

Habitat

The Pokédex gives no habitat; Bulbapedia says it can live in many parts of Paldea, from snowy mountains to deserts and lakes. In Scarlet and Violet it is found in all four provinces and in 3-star Tera Raid Battles.

Powers

Its Ability is Swarm, with Tinted Lens hidden. It arrives with Lunge, a Bug move that lowers the target's Attack, and its legwork shows in Bounce, a leaping Flying move, and Axe Kick, a 120-power Fighting move. Base Attack 102 makes it a hard-hitting physical attacker.

Name origin

Lokix may combine 'locust' with 'kicks' or 'crickets', or pun on 'low kicks'. The Japanese name is Exleg (エクスレッグ), possibly from 'extreme', 'expert' or 'exoskeleton' plus 'leg'.

Design inspiration

A locust, the swarming kind of grasshopper, seems to be Lokix's model. Its Dark type may reflect locusts' reputation as pests, and Bulbapedia notes that southern Iberia is the only part of Europe hit by locust plagues. It also resembles the masked insect heroes of Kamen Rider, with a belt, a time limit on the transformation and a signature kick. These are fan readings.

Evolution notes

Lokix evolves from Nymble at level 24 and does not evolve further.

In the games

Lokix is the final form of Nymble, and Trainer customisation offers riding helmets shaped like its head; it first appeared in Scarlet and Violet. It is not available in Legends: Z-A.

In the anime

Katy's Lokix debuted in the Pokémon Horizons episode 'Showdown! The Paldea Elite Four'. In 'Liko vs. Rika! Towards the Battle's End' Katy and Liko lost the Elite Four Tag Battle with Lokix and Floragato.

Fun facts
