Lore
Biology
Mienshao is a white, long-bodied weasel, 1.4 m tall and 35.5 kg, with a small head and little triangular ears. It has a purple spot on its forehead, a yellow one on its snout, purple eyebrows like lashes and a pair of yellow-tipped whiskers with split ends. Its arms are almost hidden by long purple-tipped fur that looks like sleeves.
Behaviour
Bulbapedia calls Mienshao respectful and says it is usually found training alongside its Trainer. The Pokédex says it lets out a bizarre wail before kicks and chops that the eye cannot follow, then stores up power slowly for a finishing blow. Its kicks, delivered at blinding speed, can reduce huge boulders to small fragments.
Habitat
The Pokédex gives no habitat; its pre-evolution trains in mountain packs. In Scarlet and Violet it is found in Kitakami by evolving Mienfoo, and in 5-star and 6-star Tera Raid Battles there.
Powers
Mienshao shares Mienfoo's Abilities: Inner Focus and Regenerator, with Reckless hidden. It uses Fake Out, Drain Punch, Aura Sphere, Calm Mind and, at level 66, High Jump Kick. With a base Attack of 125, Special Attack of 95 and Speed of 105, it is a quick mixed attacker, but with only 65 HP it is fragile.
Name origin
Mienshao may combine 'ermine' and 'Shaolin'. The Japanese name is Kojondo (コジョンド), possibly from okojo ('ermine') and dō ('teachings' or 'path'), as in judo or taekwondo.
Design inspiration
Megumi Mizutani designed Mienshao. It follows Mienfoo's ermine and kung fu theme, perhaps Shaolin kung fu in particular, and its whip-like fur may nod to whip fighting or to the 'water sleeves' of Chinese opera performers. These are fan readings, not official statements.
Evolution notes
Mienshao evolves from Mienfoo at level 50 and is the final form of the line.
In the games
Mienshao first appeared in Black and White, where it can be found in the dark grass of Route 14. In Scarlet and Violet it can be found in The Teal Mask's Kitakami, and it is not available in Legends: Z-A.
In the anime
In 'A Festival Reunion!', Korrina's Mienfoo turned out to have evolved into a Mienshao, and it lost to Ash's Dragonite. Delbert's Mienshao debuted in 'Search for the Clubultimate!', where it lost to Montgomery's Throh.
