Lore
Biology
Okidogi is a hulking, male-only canine, 1.8 m tall and 92.2 kg, with black fur, green markings on its muzzle, chest and hands, magenta crescents on its face and a big fluffy tail. A magenta chain hangs from its neck like a leash. The Pokédex says the toxins in the chain worked on all its muscles until it transformed and grew a powerful physique.
Behaviour
Bulbapedia, citing the game's Map Mission Guide, says locals in Kitakami worship Okidogi in the hope of kindness and of keeping things 'okey-dokey' between people. According to the official site, the Loyal Three are loved as heroes who defended the land against an evil ogre, and the villagers made stone statues of them. Bulbapedia calls Okidogi greedy and arrogant, yet friendly with its two fellow heroes, who talk together in private and fight as a team.
Habitat
Canon gives no natural habitat. In The Teal Mask it waits at Paradise Barrens in Kitakami and can be caught once you have finished the expansion's main story.
Powers
Its Ability Toxic Chain gives its moves a chance to badly poison the target, and the hidden Guard Dog turns Intimidate into an Attack boost and stops it being forced out. It fights with Poison Jab, Crunch, Superpower, Brutal Swing and Counter. With 128 base Attack and 115 Defense it is a tough, hard-hitting bruiser.
Name origin
Okidogi may combine 'okie-dokie' and 'doggy', and 'dogi' may also nod to martial arts uniforms, matching its Fighting type. The Japanese name is Iineinu (イイネイヌ), possibly from ii ne ('nice!') and inu ('dog').
Design inspiration
Okidogi looks like a dog, perhaps a Shiba Inu or an Akita, a breed tied to the Tōhoku region that inspires Kitakami. A dog, a monkey and a pheasant make up the Loyal Three, which may echo the animal companions of Momotarō, the peach boy of Japanese folklore who fought oni. The chain may also resemble a shimenawa, a sacred rope. These are fan readings.
In the games
Okidogi plays a major part in The Teal Mask, the Kitakami expansion for Scarlet and Violet, where it is number 197 in the Kitakami Pokédex. Bulbapedia lists it as unobtainable in Legends: Z-A.
In the anime
Okidogi first appears as a silhouette in Pokémon Horizons. It then joins the rest of the Loyal Three in causing havoc at Kitakami Hall, until the Rising Volt Tacklers, Carmine and Ogerpon subdue them.
