Lore

Biology

Pachirisu is a small white squirrel with a pale blue stripe from its forehead to the tip of its tail, yellow circles on its cheeks and a large white tooth. It is 0.4 m tall and weighs 3.9 kg. Bulbapedia says its tail is nearly double the size of its body and the female's stripe is shorter than the male's.

Behaviour

The Legends: Arceus entry warns that although Pachirisu is calm, touching its electrified tail or cheeks is dangerous. A pair may rub their cheek pouches together to share stored electricity. When it sleeps, Bulbapedia says, it curls its fluffy tail round to the front and uses it as a pillow.

Habitat

Bulbapedia says it is generally found in treetops, on forest outskirts and near power plants. In Scarlet and Violet it lives in Paldea's South Province and parts of the East and West Provinces, and across Kitakami in The Teal Mask.

Diet

Berries are its favourite food. The Pokédex says it makes crackling fur balls full of static and tucks them, berries inside, into tree holes, and Bulbapedia says the shock stops anyone stealing the food.

Powers

Its Abilities are Run Away and Pickup, with Volt Absorb hidden. It learns Spark at level 13, Nuzzle at 19, Electro Ball at 25, Discharge at 41 and Thunder at 49. With base Speed 95 and Special Defense 90 but only 45 Attack and Special Attack, it fits support better than offence.

Name origin

Pachirisu may combine パチパチ pachipachi, an onomatopoeia for electric crackling, and 栗鼠 risu, 'squirrel'. The Japanese name is also Pachirisu (パチリス).

Design inspiration

A squirrel may have inspired Pachirisu, possibly the red squirrel of Hokkaido, the island that inspired Sinnoh. Bulbapedia suggests the yellow cheeks echo Pikachu's and the tail spikes may nod to static making hair stand up.

In the games

In Pokémon Ranger: Shadows of Almia you can begin with Pachirisu, Starly or Munchlax as your Partner Pokémon. It first appeared in Diamond and Pearl and is not available in Legends: Z-A.

In the anime

Dawn caught a Pachirisu in 'Twice Smitten, Once Shy!', which was also the species' debut. It was playful and hyperactive, and often seen running around wildly.
