Lore
Biology
Serperior is a pale green, serpentine Pokémon, 3.3 m tall and 63 kg, with a white face and throat, a dark green back and narrow red eyes. It has lost its legs for good, keeps two small leaf-like arms folded behind its back, and has two fangs, a pair of sharp yellow spikes at the back of its head and palmate leaves across its tail. The Pokédex says it takes in sunlight and boosts that energy dozens of times inside its long body.
Behaviour
Serperior is proud and selective. The White Pokédex says it raises its head to intimidate opponents, and the Black 2 and White 2 entries say it only gives its all against powerful rivals who are not fazed by its noble stare.
Habitat
The Pokédex lists no habitat. In The Indigo Disk expansion you get it by evolving Servine; elsewhere in Scarlet and Violet it arrives through Pokémon HOME or trade, and it is not in Legends: Z-A.
Powers
Its Ability Overgrow boosts Grass moves when its HP is low. Its hidden Ability Contrary reverses stat changes, so Leaf Storm, which normally harshly lowers its Special Attack, harshly raises it instead; it learns Leaf Storm at level 56. It also learns Leaf Blade, Giga Drain and Coil. Its best base stat is Speed at 113, and its total is 528.
Name origin
Serperior may combine 'serpent' and 'superior', and perhaps 'warrior' and 'emperor'. The Japanese name is Jalorda [Jarōda] (ジャローダ), possibly from ja ('snake') and 'lord'.
Design inspiration
Ken Sugimori has said the line draws on Western culture, naming Lady Oscar from the manga The Rose of Versailles, and Bulbapedia notes the three Unova starter lines stand for Western, Chinese and Japanese influences. Fan readings add that its stored sunlight may nod to France's 'Sun King', Louis XIV, and that the dark green marking across its chest resembles a fleur-de-lis.
Evolution notes
Serperior evolves from Servine at level 36 and is the final form of the line.
In the games
Serperior is the final stage of Unova's Grass starter line, introduced in Black and White, and in PokéPark 2: Wonders Beyond it rules the Arbor Area as its keeper and queen, and is Snivy's mother.
In the anime
Serperior first appeared in the twin films 'White: Victini and Zekrom' and 'Black: Victini and Reshiram', where Mako's Serperior lost to Ash's Pikachu in Eindoak Town's Harvest Festival tournament. Trip's Servine had become one by 'Jostling for the Junior Cup!'.
