Lore
Biology
Sizzlipede is a long, flat-bodied insectoid, 0.7 m long and 1.0 kg, with a red-orange head and thorax, dark brown sections along its body and short stubby legs. Two fiery whiskers extend from its face. According to the Pokédex, flammable gas kept inside its body is what it uses to make heat.
Behaviour
Sizzlipede coils round its prey and cooks it with its heated body, and the Pokédex says that once the meal is thoroughly cooked it eats every last scrap. Bulbapedia says it often picks fights with Venipede whenever the two meet.
Habitat
The Pokédex gives no habitat. It is not available in Scarlet and Violet or in Legends: Z-A.
Powers
Sizzlipede's Abilities are Flash Fire and White Smoke, with Flame Body hidden. It attacks with Ember, Flame Wheel, Fire Spin and Fire Lash, bites with Bug Bite and Lunge, and learns the powerful Burn Up at level 55. Base Attack 65 is its best stat, a modest start for a Pokémon that grows into Centiskorch.
Name origin
Sizzlipede may combine 'sizzle' with 'millipede' or 'centipede'. The Japanese name Yakude (ヤクデ) may combine yaku ('to burn') with yasude ('millipede') or mukade ('centipede').
Design inspiration
James Turner designed Sizzlipede and its evolution. Bulbapedia suggests centipedes such as the fire centipede Orphaneus brevilabiatus, which glows with bioluminescence, and notes that its category hints at a radiator. These are fan readings.
Evolution notes
Evolves into Centiskorch at level 28.
In the games
Sizzlipede lives on Route 3 and in Motostoke Stadium during the Gym Challenge in Sword and Shield, where it debuted, and it also turns up in Max Raid Battles in the Wild Area and the Crown Tundra.
