Slowpoke

Slowpoke is a Water/Psychic-type Pokémon, the Dopey Pokémon, number 79 (#0079) in the National Pokédex. It was introduced in Generation 1 and comes from the Kanto region. It is 1.2 m tall and weighs 36 kg.
Slowpoke is the Dopey Pokémon, so slow that the Pokédex says it takes five seconds to feel pain and a whole day to notice something biting its tail. Its tail drips a sweet syrup that it uses as fishing bait.

Lore
Biology
Slowpoke is a pink, four-legged Pokémon, 1.2 m tall and 36 kg, with vacant eyes, a tan muzzle and a long white-tipped tail. The tail oozes a sweet syrup that attracts fish, so Slowpoke dangles it in the water as a lure. It often breaks off but grows back, and Bulbapedia says it is prized as food: dried for stews in Alola, smoked as a curry ingredient in Galar.
Behaviour
Slowpoke is dim and forgetful, and spends its days staring blankly at the water. In some places people believe its yawn brings rain and treat it as sacred.
Habitat
Slowpoke is found at the water's edge. In Scarlet and Violet it lives around Paldea's lakes, rivers and beaches; in Legends: Z-A it is in Wild Zones 10 and 11, and the Mega Dimension DLC adds Hyperspace Lumiose.
Diet
Galarian Slowpoke eats spices, and the Scarlet Pokédex says spice is its staple food.
Powers
Its Abilities are Oblivious and Own Tempo, with Regenerator hidden. It uses Yawn, Confusion, Water Gun and Zen Headbutt. Galarian Slowpoke is a pure Psychic type, and its peppery tail makes fishing harder. With base HP 90 but Speed 15, it is tough and very slow.
Name origin
Slowpoke is a real American word for someone slow. The Japanese name is Yadon (ヤドン), which may mix yadokari ('hermit crab'), yadonushi ('parasitic host') and don ('dull').
Design inspiration
Bulbapedia says Slowpoke may be based on hippos and giant salamanders, and perhaps a sea otter. Its regrowing tail may recall lizards and salamanders that regrow theirs. These are fan readings.
Evolution notes
Slowpoke evolves into Slowbro at level 37, or into Slowking when traded holding a King's Rock. Galarian Slowpoke evolves with a Galarica Cuff or Galarica Wreath, and Bulbapedia notes that no other regional form has a branching evolution.
In the games
In Gold and Silver, Slowpoke can be found in Slowpoke Well. It debuted in Red and Green (Red and Blue outside Japan), where it lives in the Seafoam Islands. The Galarian form was added to Sword and Shield after launch, the first regional form to arrive by update.
In the anime
In 'The Evolution Solution', Professor Westwood V's Slowpoke evolved into Slowbro on Seafoam Island when a Shellder clamped on to its tail. Goh caught one on Slowpoke Island in 'An Evolution in Taste!'.
