Lore
Biology
Sneasler is a dark grey, weasel-and-cat-like biped, 1.3 m (4 ft 3 in) tall and 43 kg (94.8 lb), with purple around its face and ankles and longer fur on its shoulders. Each hand has three long, poison-tipped claws, and yellow diamond-shaped gems sit on its chest and head. Bulbapedia says it arose when Hisuian Sneasel adapted to life on the cliffs of the frozen highlands.
Behaviour
Sneasler climbs walls and cliffs with ease using its claws. It prefers solitude and does not form packs, which sets it apart from the pack-hunting Weavile. Bulbapedia notes that, despite its lanky build, it has great strength.
Habitat
The Pokédex places it on frozen highlands. In Legends: Arceus it appears in massive mass outbreaks in the Coronet Highlands. In Scarlet and Violet it can only be brought over from Pokémon HOME or obtained from an event, and it is not available in Legends: Z-A.
Powers
Its Abilities are Pressure and Unburden, with Poison Touch hidden. Its signature move is Dire Claw, which can poison, paralyse or put the target to sleep, and Bulbapedia says no other Pokémon is known to learn it. It also uses Close Combat and Poison Jab. With 130 base Attack and 120 base Speed it is a fast, powerful attacker.
Name origin
Sneasler may combine 'Sneasel' with 'ruler', or with the suffix '-er' for 'more Sneasel'. The Japanese name is Ohnyula (オオニューラ), which may blend ō ('big') or ōnyūdō ('big monk') with Nyula, Sneasel's name.
Design inspiration
Hitoshi Ariga designed Sneasler and Hisuian Sneasel. Bulbapedia suggests it draws on the kamaitachi and on the ōnyūdō, a monk-like yōkai said to bring illness to those who see it, which could explain its Poison type. It may also nod to free climbers and ninja, whose claw-like tekkō-kagi hooks resemble its claws. These are fan readings.
Evolution notes
Hisuian Sneasel evolves into Sneasler when it levels up carrying a Razor Claw in daylight. Sneasel in other regions evolves into Weavile at night.
In the games
In Legends: Arceus, where it debuted, Sneasler is a Ride Pokémon and supporting character that lets you climb walls and cliffs across Hisui.
