Lore
Biology
Weavile is a pale grey, weasel-and-cat-like biped, 1.1 m (3 ft 7 in) tall and 34 kg (75.0 lb), with a red crown and collar of feathers, a thinner feather on each ear (smaller on females) and four fangs. The Pokédex says a scratch from its claws gives you frostbite.
Behaviour
Weavile travels in groups of four or five, led by one of the pack. Its members leave each other signs clawed into trees, ice and boulders, and the Pokédex says their teamwork brings down prey as large as Mamoswine. A Legends: Arceus entry guesses that evolving gave it a bigger brain, and another says it no longer scraps over food. Bulbapedia notes it has been seen gesturing in its sleep.
Habitat
It lives in cold, snowy regions. In Scarlet and Violet it is found on Paldea's Glaseado Mountain, in 5-star Tera Raids, and by evolving Sneasel in The Teal Mask. It is not available in Legends: Z-A.
Diet
In Alola the Pokédex says its main food is Vulpix and Sandshrew, which the pack carefully shares out.
Powers
Its Abilities are Pressure and, hidden, Pickpocket; unlike the rest of its family it has only two. It learns Night Slash, Dark Pulse, Ice Shard, Nasty Plot and Triple Axel. With 125 base Speed and 120 base Attack it is an extremely fast, hard-hitting attacker.
Name origin
Weavile may combine 'weasel', 'weave', 'evil' and 'vile'. The Japanese name is Manyula (マニューラ), which may blend ma ('demon'), 'maneuver' and Nyula, the name of Sneasel.
Design inspiration
Like Sneasel, Weavile may nod to the kamaitachi, a weasel yōkai blamed for mysterious cuts in cold weather. Bulbapedia notes its crown, collar and eye markings may echo ancient Egyptian fashion, and that its head feathers might recall war bonnets or the wind in kamaitachi stories. These are fan readings.
Evolution notes
Sneasel evolves into Weavile when it levels up at night while holding a Razor Claw.
In the games
Weavile first appeared in Diamond and Pearl, where you get one by evolving Sneasel. In Legends: Arceus it appears in space-time distortions in the Obsidian Fieldlands.
In the anime
Kidd Summers' Weavile fought Ash's Pikachu in the film 'Lucario and the Mystery of Mew'. Paul's Weavile lost to Cynthia's Garchomp in 'Top-Down Training!', and Alain's beat Ash's Noivern in the Lumiose Conference final.
