Lore
Biology
Snover has a white upper body and a brown lower body, like a tree dusted with snow. It is 1.0 m tall and weighs 50.5 kg. Bulbapedia says a male is two-thirds brown and a female two-thirds white. It has green eyes, two pinecone-like spikes on its back and a hand made of five cones, with berries growing along its midsection.
Behaviour
The Pokédex says Snover is curious about people and gathers around footprints in the snow. A Legends: Arceus entry says it sometimes visits human settlements and bonds with children. In cold weather it moves down the mountain and returns to the summit in spring.
Habitat
The Pokédex says it lives on snowy mountains, and Scarlet and Violet place it on Glaseado Mountain.
Powers
Snover's Ability is Snow Warning, which brings snowy weather when it enters battle, with Soundproof hidden. It learns Powder Snow, Ice Shard, Razor Leaf, Ingrain and Wood Hammer, with Blizzard and Sheer Cold later. Its base Speed of 40 is low.
Name origin
Snover may combine 'snow' and 'cover', and may also play on 'snowed over'. The Japanese name is Yukikaburi (ユキカブリ), which may combine yuki ('snow') with kaburi ('head' or 'covering').
Design inspiration
Snover seems styled after a fir tree under snow. Bulbapedia notes the 'hat' on its head echoes a snowy peak and the kanji 山 (mountain), a symbol that began as a drawing of three peaks. These are fan readings, not official statements.
Evolution notes
Snover evolves into Abomasnow at level 40.
In the games
Snover first appeared in Diamond and Pearl, where it lives near the peak of Mt. Coronet. In Scarlet and Violet it also appears in Tera Raid Battles, and in Legends: Z-A it is in the base game's Bleu District and the Mega Dimension DLC's Hyperspace Lumiose.
In the anime
A male Snover made his series debut in 'The Lonely Snover!', hoping to befriend Ash and his friends. Candice's female Snover beat Ash's Gliscor in 'Sliding Into Seventh!' before losing to his Chimchar.
