Lore
Biology
Stufful is 0.5 m tall and weighs 6.8 kg. It resembles a bear cub, with a mostly pink body, brown legs, a white headband-like marking around its face and a puffy tail. A small white flap under the tail looks like the label on a stuffed toy, but it is really a scent organ, and the Pokédex says Stufful uses the smell to talk to its own kind.
Behaviour
Its fur looks lovely to stroke, but the Pokédex says anyone but a known friend who touches it provokes a frenzy, and that it squirms and thrashes with surprising power. Bulbapedia says it flails and moves constantly even in its sleep. Despite its size it can knock out unprepared, well-trained Pokémon.
Habitat
The Pokédex gives no habitat. In Sun and Moon it is found on Akala Outskirts, and in Sword and Shield on Route 5 and across much of the Wild Area.
Powers
Its Ability Fluffy halves damage from contact moves but doubles damage from Fire moves, Klutz stops it using held items, and its hidden Ability is Cute Charm. It learns Brutal Swing at level 12 and Flail at level 28, which suits a flailer. HP 70 and Attack 75 are its best stats, so it is a sturdy little bruiser.
Name origin
Stufful may come from stuffed animal, or from stuff and full, and may also nod to scuffle. The Japanese name is Nuikoguma (ヌイコグマ), which may blend nuigurumi (stuffed toy) and koguma (bear cub).
Design inspiration
Stufful appears to be based on a red panda as well as on teddy bears and other stuffed animals.
Evolution notes
Evolves into Bewear at level 27.
In the games
Stufful turns up on Akala Outskirts in Sun and Moon, where it first appeared, and returned in Sword and Shield, including Max Raid Battles in the Isle of Armor's Fields of Honor. It is not available in Scarlet and Violet or Legends: Z-A.
In the anime
Stufful debuted in 'A Dream Encounter!', first glimpsed in an Aether Paradise promotional video. In 'League Offenders and Defenders!' Team Rocket mistook a Trainer's Stufful for Bewear's child and feared she was coming to take them home.
