Lore
Biology
Stunky is 0.4 m tall and 19.2 kg, with dark purple fur, a cream stripe down its back, an orange nose and a raised tail ending in spiky hair. It sprays from its rear and, the Pokédex says, can hit targets from over 5 m (16 ft) away. One entry says the stench lingers for 24 hours.
Behaviour
Stunky uses its spray to defend itself. A Pokédex entry warns that a Stunky raising its tail and turning its back is about to soak you, and another says the stench drives other Pokémon away.
Habitat
Bulbapedia says Stunky can be sighted in swampy terrain. In Scarlet it lives in South Province and West Province, and Serebii says Violet players must trade for it.
Powers
Its Abilities are Stench, which gives its hits a 10% chance to make a target flinch, and Aftermath, which hurts an attacker that knocks it out with a contact move; Keen Eye is hidden. Its moves include Poison Gas, Acid Spray, Sucker Punch, Night Slash and Explosion. With Speed 74 and Attack 63 it is a modest early attacker.
Name origin
Stunky may combine 'skunk' or 'stunk' with 'stinky'. The Japanese name is Skunpuu (スカンプー), which may mix 'skunk' with pū, a comic sound for a toot.
Design inspiration
Bulbapedia reads Stunky as a skunk, most likely a hog-nosed skunk, with some cat in its looks. It suggests that Explosion and the Ability Aftermath may come from gas bombs, or from skunks emptying all their spray at once.
Evolution notes
Stunky evolves into Skuntank at level 34.
In the games
Stunky roams the Crimson Mirelands and Coronet Highlands in Legends: Arceus, having first appeared on Routes 206, 214 and 221 of Diamond. It cannot be found in Legends: Z-A.
In the anime
Officer Jenny's Stunky debuted in 'A Secret Sphere of Influence!', where it took the Adamant Orb back from Team Rocket and scared them away with its Stench. Another Stunky and its Officer Jenny guard the orb in 'Losing Its Lustrous!' when Team Galactic attacks.
