Lore
Biology
Sunflora is a leafy green Pokémon with a round cream head ringed by yellow petals and two narrow eyes that always look closed. It is 0.8 m (2'07") tall and weighs 8.5 kg (18.7 lbs). The Pokédex says the petals on its face become more vivid and lively as the hot season approaches.
Behaviour
Sunflora lives on sunlight, so it keeps its face turned towards the sun, and it closes its petals in the dark. Bulbapedia adds that in the anime too much sun makes its head grow so big that it cannot move.
Habitat
The Pokédex habitat is grassland, and Bulbapedia calls it rare in the wild, turning up now and then in temperate grassy meadows. In Scarlet and Violet it lives in Paldea's North Province, South Province Area Six, Tagtree Thicket and the East Paldean Sea.
Powers
Sunflora can have Chlorophyll or Solar Power, with Early Bird hidden. Solar Power raises its Special Attack in strong sunlight at the cost of some health each turn. It uses Sunny Day, Solar Beam and Petal Blizzard. With base Special Attack 105 but base Speed only 30, it is a slow special attacker.
Name origin
Sunflora may combine 'sun' or 'sunflower' with 'flora'. The Japanese name is Kimawari (キマワリ), possibly from 黄 ki (yellow) and 向日葵 himawari (sunflower).
Design inspiration
Sunflora seems modelled on a sunflower and the way it is tied to the sun. This is a fan reading.
Evolution notes
Sunflora evolves from Sunkern when a Sun Stone is used on it, and it does not evolve further.
In the games
Sunflora's best-known role is as an apprentice at Wigglytuff's Guild in Mystery Dungeon: Explorers of Time, Darkness and Sky, where she exclaims 'Oh my gosh!' constantly and keeps a diary. It is found across Paldea in Scarlet and Violet and is not available in Legends: Z-A.
In the anime
Nando's Sunflora cleared its Trainer's name in 'A Secret Sphere of Influence!' by tracking down Team Rocket, who were behind the theft of the Adamant Orb. In 'Grin to Win!', the town of Bloomingvale holds an annual Sunflora Festival.

- At Spaceworld '97, an early Sunflora, apparently called Sanī, looked like a sunflower planted in the ground rather than a walking one.
