Lore
Biology
Toedscruel is 1.9 m tall and 58 kg. Its black mushroom cap carries three pink bumps, one smaller and at the front, and a folded beige rim that people eat. Below the cap are two slanted eyes, a tube-like black mouth and ten tentacles that resemble mycelium. Bulbapedia says it hops along on those springy tentacles rather than running.
Behaviour
Toedscruel gathers into colonies, and the Pokédex says it absolutely hates it when strangers approach.
Habitat
Deep inside forests, according to the Pokédex. In Scarlet and Violet it is found along Socarrat Trail in the North Province, and in The Teal Mask in the Kitakami Wilds and Timeless Woods.
Diet
The Pokédex says it wraps its 10 tentacles around prey and drains their nutrients, which hurts the prey.
Powers
Its only Ability is Mycelium Might. It learns Reflect Type, Stun Spore, Spore, Giga Drain, Earth Power and Power Whip. With 120 base Special Defense and 100 Speed it is a bulky, surprisingly quick support Pokémon.
Name origin
Toedscruel blends 'toadstool', 'toed' and Tentacruel. The Japanese name is Rikukurage (リククラゲ), which may combine 陸 riku ('land'), 木耳 kikurage ('tree jellyfish') and Dokukurage, Tentacruel's Japanese name.
Design inspiration
Like its pre-evolution, it appears to be a wood ear mushroom styled after a jellyfish Pokémon. Bulbapedia says its tube mouth resembles a cephalopod's hyponome, a stylised mouth often drawn on Japanese cephalopod characters, and its pink bumps may refer to the red droplets some fungi produce. These are fan readings.
Evolution notes
Toedscruel evolves from Toedscool at level 30.
In the games
Toedscruel appears in 4-star and 6-star Tera Raids and as fixed encounters in The Teal Mask, an expansion to Scarlet and Violet, the games where it debuted. Bulbapedia lists it as unobtainable in Legends: Z-A.
In the anime
Toedscruel debuted in Pokémon Horizons in 'Song Within the Mist', as part of Lucius's Lapras's crew, and returned in 'Lapras's Feelings for its Friends'.
