Lore

Biology

Uxie is a small, grey, fairy-like Pokémon, 0.3 m tall and 0.3 kg, with a yellow face and a yellow helmet-shaped crest. It has a red gem in its forehead and two long tails, each tipped with a leaf shape and another red gem. Bulbapedia says the bumpy crest may be a nod to the shape of a brain. Its spirit can leave its body and return at will.

Behaviour

Uxie is very shy, but Bulbapedia says it fights hard when it or its friends are in danger. The Pokédex says people both fear and respect it for erasing the memories of wrongdoers. It is one of the three lake guardians, which Bulbapedia says can calm an enraged Dialga or Palkia, though not both at once.

Habitat

The Pokédex gives no habitat; Bulbapedia says it lives in the Acuity Cavern at the centre of Lake Acuity. In the games the cavern is where it waits in Diamond, Pearl, Platinum, Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl, and in the Alabaster Icelands in Legends: Arceus.

Powers

Uxie's Ability is Levitate, and it learns Psychic, Extrasensory and Future Sight, along with Amnesia and the memory-themed Memento. Bulbapedia says it has been shown creating illusions and teleporting itself and others. With base Defense and Special Defense of 130 each it is a very sturdy support Pokémon rather than a hard hitter.

Name origin

Uxie may combine the U of 'UMA' (a Japanese term for cryptids, short for unidentified mysterious animal) with 'pixie'. It may also involve the pronoun 'you'. The Japanese name is Yuxie (ユクシー).

Design inspiration

Uxie looks like a pixie or fairy. Bulbapedia suggests the lake guardians may come from Japan's Three Sacred Treasures, with Uxie matching the mirror Yata no Kagami, a symbol of wisdom and honesty. It may also nod to the Cherubim, angels associated with knowledge. These are fan readings, not official statements.

In the games

Uxie is one of the three lake guardians of Diamond and Pearl, where it debuted. In Mystery Dungeon: Explorers of Time and Darkness it guards a Time Gear at Fogbound Lake. In Scarlet and Violet it arrives only by transfer from Pokémon HOME or an event, and Bulbapedia lists it as unobtainable in Legends: Z-A.

In the anime

Uxie debuted physically in 'The Needs of the Three!', arriving at Lake Valor with Mesprit after Azelf is captured, and is then caught by J and Team Galactic. In 'The Battle Finale of Legend!' it breaks free and helps stop Cyrus's plan to use Dialga and Palkia.
