Venonat

Venonat is a Bug/Poison-type Pokémon, the Insect Pokémon, number 48 (#0048) in the National Pokédex. It was introduced in Generation 1 and comes from the Kanto region. It is 1 m tall and weighs 30 kg.
Venonat's huge red eyes are clusters of many tiny eyes that work like radar, and the Pokédex says they can even shoot powerful beams. For all that eyesight, this night hunter is drawn to bright lights, just like the bugs it eats.

Lore
Biology
Venonat is a round bug covered in purple fur, with a pink pincer mouth, white antennae and stubby light-tan limbs. It is 1.0 m tall and weighs 30 kg. Bulbapedia says its fur gives off a toxic liquid when it shakes itself, and Silver's Pokédex says poison seeps out across its whole body. Omega Ruby's Pokédex says its coat of thin, stiff hair is thought to have evolved for protection.
Behaviour
Venonat is nocturnal. By day it sleeps in a tree hollow, and it heads out only after dark, when its prey is about.
Habitat
The Pokédex says it lurks in the shade of tall trees, and Bulbapedia adds dense forests. In Scarlet and Violet it is found in East Province Area One and Tagtree Thicket and in 1-star Tera Raids, and in The Indigo Disk's Savanna Biome. Bulbapedia lists it as unobtainable in Legends: Z-A.
Diet
The Pokédex says it hunts small bugs that come out at night.
Powers
Its Ability Compound Eyes raises its accuracy, Tinted Lens boosts moves that are not very effective, and Run Away is hidden. It casts Sleep Powder and Stun Spore and attacks with Psybeam, Bug Buzz and Psychic. None of its base stats is above 60.
Name origin
Venonat may combine 'venom' and 'gnat'. The Japanese name is Kongpang (コンパン), possibly from 'compound eye' or konchū, 'insect'.
Design inspiration
Venonat appears to mix several insects, possibly including fleas, mites, flies, owlflies, wingless moths and venomous caterpillars. Its big compound eyes resemble parabolic radar dishes. These are fan readings, not official statements.
Evolution notes
Venonat evolves into Venomoth at level 31.
In the games
Venonat first appeared in Red and Green (Red and Blue outside Japan), where it lives on Routes 12 to 15 and in the Safari Zone.
In the anime
Tracey's Venonat first appeared in 'The Lost Lapras' and was the first Pokémon he used; he relied on it to see at night or at long distance. In 'Camping It Up!', Conway trains one at the Pokémon Summer Academy.
