Lore
Biology
Beautifly has two pairs of black wings with orange-yellow, red and blue markings, large blue eyes and a long, curled black mouth that works like a straw. It is 1.0 m tall and weighs 28.4 kg. Bulbapedia says the female's red wing spots are smaller than the male's.
Behaviour
Despite its colourful looks, Beautifly is aggressive. The Pokédex says it lashes out with its needle-like mouth if anything interrupts it while it gathers pollen, and that it stabs prey to drain their fluids. It also chases Combee away, to keep its favourite food to itself.
Habitat
The Pokédex habitat is Forest, and it flits across flower-filled fields, riding the spring winds.
Diet
Its favourite food is the sweet pollen and nectar of flowers, which it collects with its coiled mouth.
Powers
Its Ability is Swarm, which powers up Bug moves when its HP is low; Rivalry is hidden and boosts its damage against Pokémon of the same gender. It learns Gust, Air Cutter, Silver Wind, Giga Drain, Bug Buzz and Quiver Dance. With 100 base Special Attack it is a special attacker that powers up with Quiver Dance.
Name origin
Beautifly may combine 'beauty' and 'butterfly', and could also play on 'beautify'. The Japanese name is Agehunt (アゲハント), possibly from ageha-chō ('swallowtail butterfly') and 'hunt', for its aggressive nature.
Design inspiration
Beautifly looks like a swallowtail butterfly, most of all the common yellow swallowtail judging by the shape and colours of its wings, though the orange and black also recall a monarch. Its habit of piercing prey is like that of a vampire moth or a mosquito. These are fan readings.
Evolution notes
Beautifly evolves from Silcoon at level 10.
In the games
Players get Beautifly by evolving Silcoon in Ruby and Sapphire, where it debuted. In Legends: Arceus it appears in the Obsidian Fieldlands and Cobalt Coastlands, and Bulbapedia lists it as unobtainable in Scarlet and Violet and Legends: Z-A.
In the anime
May's Silcoon evolved into a Beautifly in 'Seeing is Believing!', and she used it in many Contests until leaving it at the Petalburg Gym after the Hoenn Grand Festival.
