Lore
Biology
Boltund is 1.0 m tall and weighs 34 kg. It is a sleek, yellow-topped hound with a muted green lower body, white markings on its muzzle and chest, and spikes on its hind legs. Held up, its thin tail forms a lightning bolt.
Behaviour
The Pokédex says Boltund sends the electricity it generates down into its legs to keep them strong. Bulbapedia calls it the enemy of Thievul.
Habitat
The Pokédex gives no habitat. In Sword and Shield it is found at Dusty Bowl, Lake of Outrage and Motostoke Riverbank, and in the Crown Tundra at Ballimere Lake.
Powers
Boltund has Strong Jaw, with Competitive hidden. It starts with Electrify, runs electric attacks such as Spark, Charge and Wild Charge, bites with Crunch and sets up Electric Terrain at level 62. A base Speed of 121 with 90 Attack and 90 Special Attack makes it a very fast mixed attacker.
Name origin
Boltund may combine 'bolt' with Hund (German and Swedish for 'dog') or 'hound'. The Japanese name is Pulsewan (パルスワン), which may join 'pulse' and wanwan (a bark), and Bulbapedia says it may also nod to Pulseman, a Game Freak video game.
Design inspiration
Boltund seems to combine a greyhound and an English foxhound, and its sighthound look could also recall a lurcher. Its feud with Thievul may reference fox hunting, in which foxhounds hunted red foxes. These are fan readings.
Evolution notes
Boltund evolves from Yamper at level 25 and is the final stage.
In the games
Boltund, the evolution of Yamper, is found in the wild in Galar and the Crown Tundra in Sword and Shield, where it debuted. It is not available in Scarlet and Violet or Legends: Z-A.
In the anime
Two Boltund appear in 'As Long as I'm with My Friends'. The animated short Dragonite and the Special Delivery reveals in its epilogue that Rio's family Yamper has evolved into a Boltund.
