Lore
Biology
Bramblin is 0.6 m tall and 0.6 kg: a ball of brownish-yellow, thorny stalks with small, leaf-like black eyes floating inside. The Pokédex says it began as a spirit that never reached the afterlife, drifted on the wind and got caught up in dried grass. Bulbapedia notes that its eyes do not blink; they turn and flip to show how it feels.
Behaviour
Bramblin cannot steer. It tumbles across the wilderness wherever the wind takes it, and the Pokédex says it does not know the destination any better than we do.
Habitat
Bulbapedia says it favours dry, stony country, deserts included. In Scarlet and Violet it is found in Asado Desert and Paldea's East Province.
Powers
Its Ability Wind Rider makes it immune to wind moves and raises its Attack when one hits it; the hidden Infiltrator bypasses screens such as Reflect. It learns Rollout, Hex, Phantom Force, Giga Drain, Curse and Pain Split. With 65 base Attack and 30 Defense it is frail, a Pokémon to evolve rather than rely on.
Name origin
Bramblin may blend 'bramble' with 'rambling', 'goblin' or 'gremlin'. The Japanese name is Anokusa (アノクサ), which may come from ano kusa ('that grass') and nogusa ('field grass').
Design inspiration
Bramblin appears to be a tumbleweed, a plant that dries out so the wind can scatter its seeds, which fits its Ghost type and Wind Rider. Bulbapedia also links it to the Alicornio, a demon from Murcian folklore that lurks inside a tumbleweed and shows up when the wind blows. These are fan readings.
Evolution notes
Bramblin evolves into Brambleghast when it levels up outside its Poké Ball after the player has walked 1,000 steps using Let's Go! in Scarlet and Violet. Bulbapedia notes that a bug can affect how those steps are counted.
In the games
Bramblin is a wild Pokémon and a 2-star Tera Raid Pokémon in Scarlet and Violet, where it debuted. Bulbapedia lists it as unobtainable in Legends: Z-A.
In the anime
Shine's Bramblin debuted in Pokémon Horizons in 'The Wild Pair, Friede and Cap!', where Pokémon hunters caught it and it later evolved into Brambleghast. A wild one also appears in Pokémon: Paldean Winds ('Breathe Together').
