Lore
Biology
Crabominable is 1.7 m tall and weighs 180 kg. It is a white, furry crab with bare dark purple patches on its chest, arms and back that look like bulging muscles, a blue face with two blunt square teeth, and a tuft of yellow fur on its head. The Pokédex says it stores cold in its pincers and can smash thick walls of ice with them.
Behaviour
Crabominable is impulsive and starts pummelling before it stops to think. It moves sluggishly, and the Pokédex says it spits icy bubbles to freeze opponents in place. When desperate it can lop off its pincers and fire them like rockets. The detached pincers are delicious, and some Trainers bring a Lechonk into the mountains just to hunt for them.
Habitat
It lives on snowy mountains: in Paldea on Glaseado Mountain, and in the Terarium's Polar Biome. In Alola it is only found by evolving a Crabrawler.
Powers
It shares Crabrawler's Abilities Hyper Cutter, Iron Fist and hidden Anger Point, starts with Ice Punch, and learns Ice Hammer, Close Combat and Dynamic Punch. Mega Crabominable stands only on its rear legs, which are encased in a long icicle, with spiked ice on its pincers like a mace. It has only Iron Fist, 157 Attack and 33 Speed, and the Pokédex says one swing can pulverise reinforced concrete. Normal Crabominable has 132 Attack but 43 Speed, making it a heavy, slow hitter.
Name origin
Crabominable may combine 'crab' with 'abominable snowman', another name for the yeti. The Japanese name is Kekenkani (ケケンカニ), which may combine kegani ('horsehair crab') and kenka ('fight').
Design inspiration
Crabominable may take its look from yeti crabs, deep-sea crustaceans with long arms covered in pale hair, while its snowy mountain life and footprints echo the yeti of legend. Bulbapedia also suggests its delicious pincers nod to the horsehair crab, and that Mega Crabominable's ice spikes may recall boxer crabs, which carry stinging anemones in their claws. These are fan readings.
Evolution notes
Crabominable evolves from Crabrawler with an Ice Stone.
In the games
Mega Crabominable arrived with the Mega Dimension DLC of Legends: Z-A, where wild Crabominable also roam Hyperspace Lumiose; the species itself first appeared in Sun and Moon. In Scarlet and Violet it appears in 4-star Tera Raid Battles.
In the anime
Hala's Crabrawler evolved into Crabominable in 'Getting a Jump on the Competition!', after beating a wild Sneasel on Mount Lanakila. Kofu also has one in the Paldean Winds series.
