Lore
Biology
Cutiefly is 0.1 m tall and weighs 0.2 kg. It is pale yellow with a white face and tail, large eyes with pixel-like spots, a long brown proboscis and wide white wings with a brown loop. It sucks up food through its proboscis and stores any pollen it cannot finish in its fur.
Behaviour
Cutiefly reads auras, and excited creatures give off auras like flowers in full bloom. The Pokédex says swarms of Cutiefly flutter over people whose auras look like flowers, and when it senses people or Pokémon having fun it draws close and gives them a painful poke. In fields it skirmishes with Butterfree over food and hovers around Gossifleur for its pollen.
Habitat
It lives in fields and meadows, though emotions sometimes draw it to towns. In Alola it is found on Routes 2 and 3 and in Melemele Meadow, and in Scarlet and Violet in Kitakami through The Teal Mask. It is not available in Legends: Z-A.
Diet
Pollen and nectar.
Powers
Its Abilities are Honey Gather, which can find Honey after battle, and Shield Dust, which blocks the extra effects of incoming moves; hidden Sweet Veil stops friendly Pokémon falling asleep. It attacks with Draining Kiss, Struggle Bug and Dazzling Gleam, and learns Quiver Dance at level 54. Its best base stat is Speed, 84.
Name origin
Cutiefly may combine 'cutie' and 'fly' (as in bee fly, fairyfly or butterfly), and play on 'cutie pie'. The Japanese name is Abuly (アブリー), which may combine tsuriabu ('bee fly'), 'lovely' and 'fairy'.
Design inspiration
Cutiefly looks like a bee fly, and Bulbapedia names the species as Anastoechus nitidulus. It may also draw on the fairyfly or a fairy. These are fan readings.
Evolution notes
Cutiefly evolves into Ribombee at level 25.
In the games
Cutiefly flutters around Melemele's routes and meadow in Sun and Moon, where it first appeared. In Scarlet and Violet it joins through The Teal Mask, including 1-star Tera Raid Battles in Kitakami.
In the anime
Multiple Cutiefly debuted in 'Partner Promises!', where Ash and Pikachu spotted them on Treasure Island. In 'A Timeless Encounter!' Ash and a young Professor Kukui free several that were caught in a Trevenant's leaves.
