Delphox

Delphox is a Fire/Psychic-type Pokémon, the Fox Pokémon, number 655 (#0655) in the National Pokédex. It was introduced in Generation 6 and comes from the Kalos region. It is 1.5 m tall and weighs 39 kg.
Delphox is the Fire and Psychic Fox Pokémon that acts like a witch: it stares into the flame on its wand to see the future, then uses psychic power to sweep foes into a vortex of fire. It is the final form of Kalos's Fire starter and can Mega Evolve into a broomstick-riding Mega Delphox.

Lore
Biology
Delphox is a bipedal fox, 1.5 m tall and 39 kg, wrapped in long fur that looks like a dark red robe with flame-like marks near the knees. Yellow fur drapes from its shoulders, long red fur forms sleeves, and its dark grey hands and feet have three clawed digits. Three tufts of red-orange fur grow from each ear. It carries a stick it uses as a wand, tucked into its sleeve-like fur when not in use.
Behaviour
Delphox is a mystic. The Pokédex says it stares into the flame on its branch until it is focused enough to see the future. Bulbapedia adds that it uses the stick to scorch marks into the ground, and the Scarlet entry says people long ago read the shapes of those burn marks for divination.
Habitat
The Pokédex gives no habitat. In Scarlet and Violet it arrives by trade or Pokémon HOME transfer, or by evolving Braixen in The Indigo Disk. In Legends: Z-A you evolve it from Braixen, and the Mega Dimension DLC adds wild Delphox to Hyperspace Lumiose.
Powers
Delphox gets Mystical Fire as it evolves, starts with Future Sight and Shadow Ball, later learns Psychic and Fire Blast, and the Pokédex puts its vortex of flame at 3,000°C (5,400°F). Its Ability is Blaze, with Magician hidden. Mega Delphox, new in Legends: Z-A via Delphoxite, rides a huge flaming broomstick flanked by two burning branches that move as if alive; its Ability is Levitate and its base Special Attack leaps from 114 to 159. Normal Delphox, with base Speed 104, is a fast special attacker.
Name origin
Delphox may combine 'Delphic oracle' with 'fox'. The Japanese name is Mahoxy (マフォクシー), possibly from madōshi ('mage'), mahō ('magic'), 'fox' and 'foxy'.
Design inspiration
Delphox is built on the fennec fox and kitsune, but its style leans on European sorcery: a robe-like coat, a wand-like branch and prophecy that may nod to oracles. Bulbapedia says the Kalos starters' final forms were designed to look like monsters from a European-style role-playing game. Mega Delphox adds a wizard's beard and a broomstick, which are fan readings.
Evolution notes
Braixen evolves into Delphox at level 36.
In the games
Delphox is the final form of the Fire starter in X and Y and gained its Mega Evolution in Legends: Z-A. In Pokémon UNITE it is a playable ranged attacker.
In the anime
Delphox debuted in 'An Appetite for Battle!', under the Trainer Wylie. Aria's Delphox, her main Pokémon, helped her keep the title of Kalos Queen in the Master Class at the Gloire City Showcase.
Fun facts
- Delphox is the only Psychic-type first partner Pokémon.
- Bulbapedia says it is the only Kalos starter whose Ability after Mega Evolving does not match its Hidden Ability, perhaps because Magician would be useless for a Mega Evolved Pokémon.
- Mega Delphox was one of the last new Mega Evolutions revealed before Legends: Z-A launched, alongside Mega Chesnaught, Mega Greninja and both Mega Raichus.
