Lore

Biology

Drizzile is a slim blue lizard, 0.7 m tall and 11.5 kg, with a white belly, lime green mitten-like hands and a chameleon tail that curls inward. Three hairlike strands grow from its head, two of them drooping over one side of its face. Bulbapedia says it makes its water balloons from moisture released by pores in its palms. Its long, slimy tongue, which the Pokédex says it lashes out at blinding speed to finish off prey, is hidden inside its mouth.

Behaviour

Bulbapedia says Drizzile is smart enough to devise strategies and use its surroundings for hit-and-run tactics, but would rather not do anything it does not have to. It likes to nest in tree hollows or rocks, and usually moves on all fours. Like Sobble, it camouflages itself when wet.

Habitat

The Pokédex gives no habitat. In Scarlet and Violet it needs a trade in the base game, or can be evolved from Sobble in The Indigo Disk.

Powers

Drizzile has Torrent, with Sniper hidden. It uses Water Pulse, Liquidation, Sucker Punch, U-turn and Soak, and sets weather with Rain Dance. With base Special Attack 95 and Speed 90 it is a quick, trap-setting special attacker.

Name origin

Drizzile may combine 'drizzle' and 'reptile'. The Japanese name is Jimereon (ジメレオン), which may blend じめじめ jimejime ('damp') and 'chameleon'.

Design inspiration

Like Sobble, Drizzile seems to be modelled on the veiled chameleon, whose males share its colours. Bulbapedia says its colours may also point to Fiji's crested iguana and its close relative, the banded iguana. These are fan readings.

Evolution notes

Drizzile evolves from Sobble at level 16 and into Inteleon at level 35.

In the games

Drizzile is the middle stage of the Galar Water starter line, first appearing in Sword and Shield as Sobble's level 16 evolution. Bulbapedia lists it as unobtainable in Legends: Z-A.

In the anime

Goh's Sobble evolved into Drizzile in 'Not Too Close for Comfort!', and the Drizzile then lived at Cerise Laboratory until it evolved again in 'Detective Drizzile!'.

Fun facts

  • In the Pokémon Adventures manga, Marvin's Sobble, nicknamed Sniffler, evolves into Drizzile in the chapter 'Rising!! Opal of Ballonlea'.
  • Its Mandarin name 變澀蜥 appears to pun on the word for chameleon, 變色龍: it swaps 色 ('colour') for 澀 ('astringent'), which sounds the same.
  • Its German name, Phlegleon, comes from 'phlegmatisch' (phlegmatic) and Chamäleon, which suits a Pokémon the Pokédex calls very lazy.
