Falinks

Falinks is a Fighting-type Pokémon, the Formation Pokémon, number 870 (#0870) in the National Pokédex. It was introduced in Generation 8 and comes from the Galar region. It is 3 m tall and weighs 62 kg.
Falinks is the Formation Pokémon, six small armoured soldiers that count as one Pokémon: five troopers and a commanding brass whose orders are absolute. They never stop changing formation in battle, and in Legends: Z-A all six can lock together into a humanoid Mega Falinks.

Lore
Biology
Falinks is 3 m tall and weighs 62 kg as a group, and it is genderless. Each trooper is a black, round body on two stubby legs, with a golden helmet-like shell topped by a red horn and shield-like plates on its sides. The brass is the largest and strongest, and the Pokédex says it is also the smartest, with a bigger crest and an extendable horn for giving orders. The six usually march in a single file, but break formation to attack.
Behaviour
Teamwork is Falinks's whole strategy: the Pokédex says the six work together as one Pokémon and keep changing formation as they fight. The troopers obey the brass without question. Bulbapedia notes they can squeeze through small holes, and in the anime troopers sometimes stand on one another to pull off moves.
Habitat
The Pokédex gives no habitat. In Scarlet and Violet it is found in the west, north and east of Paldea and in Tera Raid Battles, and in Legends: Z-A in Wild Zones 16 and 20 and in the Mega Dimension DLC's Hyperspace Lumiose.
Powers
Falinks hits with Close Combat, Megahorn and First Impression, and Bulbapedia says it is the only known Pokémon that can learn No Retreat. Its Ability is Battle Armor, which blocks critical hits, or the hidden Defiant, which sharply raises Attack when a stat is lowered. Base Attack and Defense of 100 make it a tough physical fighter. Mega Falinks, using Falinksite, stacks the six into a humanoid with the brass as the head, with Attack and Defense both 135 and Defiant as its only Ability.
Name origin
Falinks may combine 'phalanx' and 'links'. The Japanese name is Tairetsu (タイレーツ), which may come from tairetsu (隊列), meaning a line of troops in formation.
Design inspiration
Yusuke Kozaki designed Falinks. It may be inspired by the phalanx formations of Ancient Greek soldiers, whose Corinthian helmets its golden, red-crested shells resemble. Bulbapedia also suggests its Paldea Pokédex number, 300, echoes the 300 Spartans at Thermopylae. These are fan readings.
In the games
In Legends: Z-A, Falinks is the partner Pokémon of Ivor, whose Falinks holds a Falinksite and Mega Evolves. It debuted in Sword and Shield, where Bea uses one in all of her rematch teams.
In the anime
Falinks made its anime debut in 'Grabbing the Brass Ring!', where Goh caught one. In Pokémon Horizons, Ivor's Falinks Mega Evolves and battles Roy's Lucario, but loses.
