Fidough official artwork

Fidough is a Fairy-type Pokémon, the Puppy Pokémon, number 926 (#0926) in the National Pokédex. It was introduced in Generation 9 and comes from the Paldea region. It is 0.3 m tall and weighs 10.9 kg.

Fidough is the Puppy Pokémon, a squishy Fairy type that cultivates yeast inside its body and breathes it out, making things ferment around it. People have protected it since long ago because that yeast is so useful for cooking.

Lore

Biology

Fidough is a small dog, 0.3 m tall and 10.9 kg, with a big head, stubby legs and off-white fur with yellow accents. Its ears look like bread buns, its tail is made of two round segments, and a braid-like row of bumps runs down its back. It has a big dewlap that it rests its head on when it sleeps. Its smooth, moist skin is firm but elastic, and when agitated it puffs up to look bigger.

Behaviour

The Scarlet Pokédex says the yeast in Fidough's breath makes things ferment around it. Bulbapedia says it has long been seen as a companion to humankind, and the Legends: Z-A Pokédex says it has lived alongside people since ancient times and improved their diets.

Habitat

The Pokédex gives no habitat. In Scarlet and Violet it is found mainly in Paldea's South Province, and in 1-star Tera Raid Battles.

Powers

Its Abilities are Own Tempo, which prevents confusion, and the hidden Klutz, which stops it using held items in battle. It learns Play Rough at level 18, Baton Pass at 26 and Crunch at 40. Its best base stat is Defense, 70, and it needs its evolution to become a serious threat.

Name origin

Fidough may combine 'Fido', a stock dog name that also means 'loyal' in Spanish and Italian, with 'filo' and 'dough'. The Japanese name is Pupimocchi (パピモッチ), possibly from 'puppy' with mocchiri, a word for a soft, springy texture, or from mochi, the rice cake.

Design inspiration

Mari Shimazaki designed Fidough and Dachsbun. Fidough looks like a puppy, probably a dachshund, made of pastry dough, and Bulbapedia suggests the Mollete de Antequera bread or the spiral ensaïmada pastry. The idea may also pun on 'purebred', which sounds like 'pure bread', and a turnspit dog, a stubby kitchen breed, may be involved. These are fan readings.

Evolution notes

Fidough evolves into Dachsbun at level 26.

In the games

In Legends: Z-A, Fidough appears wild in the Mega Dimension DLC's Hyperspace Lumiose, in the 2-star and 3-star Fairy-type wild zones. It first appeared in Scarlet and Violet and has a Pokédex entry in Pokémon Pokopia.

In the anime

Fidough debuted in the Pokémon Horizons episode 'Welcome to Paldea!', owned by Liko's father, Alex. In the Biri-Biri music video, Anna's Fidough evolves into a Dachsbun.
