Lore
Biology
Gallade is a white, bipedal humanoid, 1.6 m tall and 52 kg, with a slim green torso and a pointed red plate that pierces both its chest and its back. Its arms are shaped like tonfas, with extendable blade elbows, and its head recalls a gladiator's helmet, with red eyes, a teal crest and spikes along each side of its face.
Behaviour
Gallade is a polite, disciplined swordsman. The Pokédex says it can read what its foe is thinking, so its strikes come out first and come out fierce, and that it notices when others want help and goes looking for people in need.
Habitat
Bulbapedia says it inhabits mountainous areas. In Scarlet and Violet it is found on Glaseado Mountain, in Alfornada Cavern, Dalizapa Passage and North Province (Area One), and in Kitakami. In Legends: Z-A it appears in Wild Zones 5 and 20.
Powers
Gallade has Steadfast or Sharpness, which powers up slicing moves, with Justified hidden. It cuts with Slash, Psycho Cut at level 42 and Close Combat at 63, and has Sacred Sword, Leaf Blade and Night Slash. Holding Galladite it Mega Evolves, a form that first arrived with Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire: red plates and a cape-like pair of protrusions appear, its blades turn serrated, and it can reshape both arms into blades and dual-wield. Mega Gallade has Inner Focus, and its Attack rises from 125 to 165.
Name origin
Gallade may combine 'gallant' with 'blade'. The Japanese name is Erureido (エルレイド), perhaps from エルフ (elf) or エルボー (elbow) plus ブレイド (blade), and possibly 居合道 iaidō, a Japanese art of answering attacks with swift swordplay.
Design inspiration
A warrior elf may be one inspiration. The fin on its head resembles a murmillo gladiator's helmet or a Greek hoplite's crested helmet, its elbow swords resemble tonfas, and its battle stances resemble fencing. Its militaristic design may also reference Gardevoir's original Japanese name, Sirnight. These are fan readings.
Evolution notes
Only a male Kirlia can become Gallade, by being given a Dawn Stone; Gardevoir needs just level 30.
In the games
A Gallade guards the blue circuit ball in a three-way boss battle in Pokémon Ranger: Shadows of Almia, and Gallade is part of Team Raider with Roserade and Rhyperior in Mystery Dungeon: Explorers of Time and Explorers of Darkness. It first appeared in Sinnoh in Diamond and Pearl.
In the anime
Gallade debuted in the film 'The Rise of Darkrai', leading Alice, Ash, Dawn and Brock through Alamos Town. Zoey's Kirlia evolved into a Gallade before the Sinnoh Grand Festival, and in 'A Grand Fight for Winning!' its efforts helped her win the title of Top Coordinator.

- Of the Pokémon introduced in Generation IV, Gallade is the only one with a Paradox counterpart, Bulbapedia says: Iron Valiant shares features with both Gallade and Gardevoir.
- No other Fighting-type Pokémon belongs to the Amorphous Egg Group.
